Re: Vintage nixing pots

I'm curious to know too, in particular how you'd compare the effect to modern nixing.

Re: Hokujo, Kobiwako & Iga Clay

Sencha ain't as bad as choppy pu in terms of clogging in my experience. Also, there must be a reason why golf ball filters came to be in demand for pots intended for export to Japan (from I believe around the 70s?) I do agree that one can learn to pour in a way that works with almost any kind of fil...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

Way too rich for my blood the last few years pricing. I can buy aged teas cheaper than the new ones.. Yes, the last few years' (close to a decade) prices have been insane and I don't know anyone buying those teas for drinking... Still, I think some of the earlier ones are worth the prices they comm...

Re: 1990s teapot question

Yeah, I was thinking "Chinese TB" (as opposed to the "global version" of the site). I'm afraid I'm not qualified to answer your questions, but a price of $30 has the combined qualities of suggesting both that it's likely to not be what it presents itself as but also that it's not the most dangerousl...

For some reason , this teapot is not listed on Chinese TB .
Seems to be.

(I have no idea about the authenticity question though.)

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

But for me, even more important now is to drink something clean and makes me feel good. I agree that for very high level teas that demand concentration - I am finding less and less time. But annoying teas seem to anger me more than ever before Same, I have less patience for such teas myself, and if...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

For what it’s worth, some of the trad/cellar/heavy stored cakes do well brewed in larger vessels with a lower leaf/water ratio in my experience. Trying something like 6 grams in a ~200-250 ml pot with longer steeps might be worthwhile. But I do think you are correct that the profile will be very div...

Re: Yixing

I assume that no-one uses Yixing for sake or baijiu, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong... Andrew I know for a fact that some do use Yixing pots for baijiu, but no idea if it's widespread or only a small "nouveau riche" thing. Also, there's a company that stores their baijius (or at least their pr...

Re: Yixing

Actially, when the Pandemic began (or rather, was declared a pandemIc by the WHO and measures started appearing outside of China) on March 11 this Yixing thread (which was opened in October 2017) was only on page 70 with 1032 posts. It's now on page 357 with 5437 posts.. So an impressive average of ...

Re: What is all the fuss around Red / Yellow / Green Marks?

@Acc Hugh: Thanks for the links. As far as I could see (from a quick glimpse), there was no explicit mention of gushu in any of them, including the auction listings. But perhaps this is something those "in the know" do not need explicitly stated to know for themselves ;)

Re: What is all the fuss around Red / Yellow / Green Marks?

LeoFox , DailyTX From Zhang Jinghong's "Puer Tea" (second endnote from intro chapter): According to the Mengla County Annals (EBMCA 1994: 226), terrace tea planting startet in the 1960s. But in Yiwu, many farmers told me that larger-scale terrace tea planting commenced in the 1970s and 1980s. Zhang...

Re: What is all the fuss around Red / Yellow / Green Marks?

I think u meant these products from 1950s-1970s. [...] Most obvious craze to these products are due to their material used. GuShu material. Do you have a source for this? Lei Pingyang mentions in his "普洱茶记" (p. 195 of my copy) that for the Green Mark arbor (乔木) material from old gardens came to be ...

Re: What kettle do you use?

I stopped using electrical kettles around six years ago, when we moved to a place where the kitchen power outlets could not handle such voltages. But I do agree that the variable temp ones can be useful if you're brewing Japanese greens. Even if you reach the "kettle whisperer" stage where you can h...

Ma tou yan ( horse meat)
"Horse head cliff/peak" no? Named after the shape of the leaves I believe.

Or I'm the case of the abbreviation "Ma (tou yan) rou (gui)", "horse cinnamon".

Sounds delicious from your notes btw.

Re: Moon Cakes & Tea Pairing

Lotus (both white and "normal") are a favorite filling here too, along with red bean. Coming around to the salty egg yolk addition too, which I didn't dig in the beginning. We only eat mooncakes on and around the mid-autumn festival, limiting the consumption by making it an annual event helps keep i...
