Re: Japanese Clays and Techniques

Any recommendations for Japanese clays that pair well with Gyokuro? Or, maybe a potter who's blend/clay might be an ideal fit? For Gyokuro I usually use 1st a glazed Kyusu first and then 2nd my oxidation fired A. Mumyoi Kyusu from Watanabe Tozo (bought from Hojotea) - often I prefer the glazed one ...

Zhuni color comparison. Old vs New. ./download/file.php?id=8496 Worth mentioning that as far as old Zhuni is concerned, the colour palette is very broad. I’ve had both of these colour expressions above, and more orange, more red, light brown, purple and all of the above in one pot, so... what’s mor...

Zhuni color comparison. Old vs New.
Out of curiosity, does either undergo a change in color when filled with hot water?
They do! Both darken, and glow a fiery red.

DJ Don’s “pinnacle” JJM. “Every 10g contains about 1000-1500 hand rolled buds picked from the Xing Cun Xiao Zhong Wuyi Lapsang tea plant.” Actually, quite good, with a luxurious and oily mouthfeel. Lots of warming spices and dark fruits. Chocolaty with very present lychee. A warming tea on a warm af...

Re: Japanese Clays and Techniques

Any recommendations for Japanese clays that pair well with Gyokuro? Or, maybe a potter who's blend/clay might be an ideal fit? I heard hokujo is a big gyokuro drinker Good to know, thanks! Some of his older work has caught my eye. His clay tends to be more brown, from what I have seen. Wasn't sure ...

Re: Di Cao Qing clay

Jules_Ludwig How's the new DCQ treating you?? Hello, sorry for the late reply. :) The clay is very interesting and totally different from all the other pots I own. It seems to be very pure and clean clay. It absolutely hasn't any particular clay smell. Hot water tastes fresh and pure out of the pot...

Not called upon, but a nice one!
He asked, behind the scenes, haha! Uploading the photo on TF gave an accurate depiction. Definitely, an enjoyable pot to behold, and use.

Re: Di Cao Qing clay

Jules_Ludwig Likewise! Good to hear. Sounds like you might have a couple from them, haha. I find I enjoy mine so much that I can't help using it for a variety of teas. Of course, as it was previously mentioned, processing and firing have a big impact on performance. Personally, I found there was an...

Re: Yixing

@Andrew S That's what I'm talking about! Good stuff!! Yeah, just stick with ZAG for the LQ/RoC Zhuni. Seems like a safer bet. While you payed a pretty penny for the potential knock off, thankfully it wasn't 3x that!
