Re: Understanding Japan's "Living National Treasure" System

I've wondered about this. Making the culture itself a treasure and not the person seems to make a lot more sense!

Re: What Black Are You Drinking

Just went to buy tea and had something I didn’t even know existed: Fushou Shan Black tea! Yes, the same farm that normally has some of Taiwan’s highest and finest Oolong. The cultivar used is the one for Tieguanyin. So this makes it the highest possible black tea in Taiwan! I have difficulty to exp...

Re: JB Weld

I've heard that plates that were kintsugi'd were not used again, for whatever reason. I can't remember who I was discussing it with! I had salad served at a tonkotsu place in Tokyo and the plate I was eating from had been repaired at the edge. Ingestion can result in gastroenteritis. Renal disease h...

Re: JB Weld

I've actually used JB Weld on wood knife handles for years--I fixed my first pot with it about four years ago when the handle snapped off! I use toothpicks and then remove the excess as best I can. Yes, I would use minimal amounts. I may just wait to see if I get a clean break since as .m. pointed o...

Re: Aging puerh: what is your setup?

Most of my pu erh is in cartons, but I have tuos in cabinets and this shou corner just kinda developed on its own: I'm working on filling up the space I have here with pu since it will age with very little intervention from me! Simple set up, you might add that you live in Hong Kong where humidity ...

Re: JB Weld

I think the amount that would be in contact with the tea, even if I filled the crack now, would be minor, and the BPA would get covered up with tea residue pretty quickly as well. Either way I have to season the pot, so maybe I could be seasoning the BPA at the same time! ^_^ I did think about the s...

Re: JB Weld

Yes, it appears many types of plastic and glass (!) both disrupt the endocrine system and are contributing to a rapid decline in male fertility. That's one way to solve the overpopulation issue! JB Weld is pretty much BPA with a little iron once cured... "However, it is estimated that the global ann...

So I got an 80s pot recently and there is a hairline crack running down and around from the spout, about 1/4" down from the bottom of the spout. When I put hot water in the pot, the clay contracts and the crack looks much more serious. I decided to buy some JB Weld on eBay. It should get here next w...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Drinking the last of a sample of high fire shuixian from a HK vendor. The vendor has a shockingly nice collection of F1 pots, but at nosebleed prices. Their better shuixian is amazing, but very expensive. I feel this shuixian is overpriced for the quality, although it's decent drinking. Quite sour b...

Organic rooibos via Vienna, Austria. Bought this stuff years ago and while the aroma and flavor have changed, it's still pleasant drinking, surprisingly! Haha, those kind of teas is a very German/Austrian thing to drink! Yes, I deliberately bought it there weil vielen leuten trinkt rooibos in Wien!...

Re: cold climate storage question

I've found low temperature to stop aging and cause cakes to dry out; I was breaking up several cakes for samples yesterday and found they are much drier and I'm getting much more dust at 23 Celsius with 85% humidity vs 26-33 Celsius with the same humidity level. Relative humidity is an issue. I thin...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Tried a high roast DHP from the family who produce the Three Stamp Shuixian here in HK. Wow, dramatic difference after resting for over a year. Much more depth and intensity of flavor. Not a 'textbook' blended DHP flavor, but something very different; I think this is all DHP varietal. I get dark fr...
