Re: Taïwan tea vendors

Wistaria Tea House in Taipei, has a shop now in Paris Wistaria Paris . You can order oolong with international shipping from the parent shop in Taipei. Thank you!! Just checked them out, they have some great options! I can highly recommend to visit them in Paris when you have a chance. Maybe you ca...

Re: How did pu'er end up in Hong Kong in the first place?

I'm quite confused by these informations. the puer tea industry was controlled by the Guangdong Province Tea Company until the 1980s Wasn't it controlled by the Yunnan Tea Branch of the CNNP (created in 1972 by merger from Yunnan China Tea Trading Co, a.k.a. Yunnan Tea Corp., est. 1944)? As far as I...

Re: Eleanor Roosevelt's pu'er mistake

Funny story, thanks for sharing. I think this would be the general attitude until the recent aged tea craze. There is nothing to suggest the type of the tea, aside that it was considered special, it could have been equally an oolong or hongcha.

Re: Fundamental Gong Fu: Boiling it down to the essence

I quite agree with mbanu . In some sense it is a question of a terminology and of a cultural meaning: What is Gong Fu Cha? I understand this is not what you are asking, but i think it's crucial to the discussion. Is GFC any small teapot short infusion type brewing, as long as it leads to good result...

Re: Yixing

Ah thank you!! Yes that looks the same. Good to know. What does it mean when it says not the best clay was used? I’ve always heard yixing if not authentic can be dangerous. Likely it is a genuine yixing clay, but may contain some additives, such as iron oxide to enhance the red color. Likely fine t...

Re: What would you tell your novice self about tea

- Don't sample just tea, sample water as well. Water makes a huge difference.
- Forget about fancy teapots, get a good ceramics kettle for boiling water instead.

This is amazing, such a stunning work! Thanks for sharing. I especially like how they scraped off all the gold kintsugi from the cracks of the chawan and replaced it by a simple black urushi.

The black spots look like bug eaten holes. The brown stains are tea, in a very moderate amount i tend to consider them as a good sign.

Re: Yixing / Clay pot purchase advice within EU

Look at fleemarkets, local classifieds, etc. Download pictures of catalogues for F1, especially from the Green Label era, those pots pop out once in a while, and so do old European export LQER pots. Keep your eyes open and you'll find a good pot eventually. Or go new, and be ready to spend a bit mor...
