Good dark oolong

I just received some dark oolong from Taiwan and was wondering what to look for as far as characteristics we’re concerned. What’s the best way to brew it.

Re: Do you eat any snacks with your tea?

I always have a yearning for a snack while I’m having tea. Usually it is something sweet especially with oolongs and puerhs. Oh well, have to live with it I guess. 😁

Practice, practice and practice. Take notes along the way. Relax. It will come in time. Enjoy yourself.

Re: A bit of gossip about TC...

I like to patronize the “little guys” when it comes to tea vendors. Sometimes they try harder. I’ll buy from a variety of them then decide which ones I prefer. Because of the Corona virus it was frustrating dealing with the Asian vendors. I had 5 orders that took on an average of 2.5 months for deli...

Re: Is tea a spiritual activity for you?

When I prepare and brew tea I usually choose the tea I want and then decide how to. It can be different for each time. I like to choose the tea I want that suits me at that moment. Sometimes I want to get a Zen feeling and drink it while I meditate listening to my favorite mood music.

Re: What's this whole teaism things about

I think “teaism” is a term that can mean different things to different people. It’s a generalization that covers every aspect of tea from mysticism to its application in every day life. It’s WONDERFUL.

Chris at Verdant

Hats off to Chris at Verdant tea in Minnesota. He was very helpful and prompt in his response to my questions about newly purchased Nixi pottery. It’s refreshing to know that folks like him are out there and are willing to help.👏

Re: Daily Tea Routines

As I have a caffeine sensitivity I must limit it during the course of my day. In the morning. Anything green with caffeine. Chinese or Japanese. With lunch. Green Rooibos. Late afternoon. Puerhs, oolongs or white teas Evening. Maybe a tisane. None of the above mentioned are written in stone. I vary ...

Re: Me and green tea, wow!!

Thanks Bok. Just finished 12 ozs of plantation tea from South Carolina, USA. Probably not the best. A lot of twigs in it. I sipped it pretty slowly. Had it with breakfast. No headache. I’m hoping for the best.

Re: Me and green tea, wow!!

Thanks for the encouragement Noonie. I’ve tried everything you mentioned. I particularly like the Oolongs and Puerhs. I’ve been steeping them in French presses then refrigerating them lately. They are refreshing and don’t seem to have much caffeine.

Me and green tea, wow!!

Been trying Chinese and Japanese green tea exclusively lately. Wow!! For the past 2 weeks I’ve been brewing these teas according to the vendor’s recommendations. I’d say I‘ve tried at least 6 in each category. The difference in taste and effect are remarkable to me. For most of my adult life, I’d sa...

Refrigerating brewed puerh tea

I brew my pu in a dedicated 300ml clay pot. Most times I drink the entire amount in 1 infusion. If I decide every so often to only drink part of it, could I refrigerate the rest for a later time? If I do this, am I sacrificing some quality in the brew? Do some folks brew a batch to have handy for a ...

Sheng and shou puers stored together

I recently acquired some Sheng and shou puers cakes. I would like to store them together in a wicker basket in their original paper. Do you think this is a good idea?

Fishy smell in Yixing clay storage pots

I have 2 Yixing clay storage containers that have had shou pu-erh in them for the last 1.5 years. Both of them are loose leaves contained. Recently I’ve noticed that upon opening the jars there is a noticeable “fishy” smell. I brewed gong fu style from both jars. They both tasted the same, fishy!! I...
