Re: Tea commercials
I get a kick out of this 1988 Tetley promo -- American Anglophiles are uneasy around Teasmades, but a musical mug with cartoon mascots would have been pure poison to the image of British elegance, especially in 1988. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLykjrqvS5I https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d...

Re: What Black Are You Drinking
Drinking a house-label Earl Grey from Tea & Sympathy in New York. My first impression was negative, as the tea arrived already a bit on the flat side, but it's grown on me -- "Oh, the tin is almost empty-".

Re: Tea-related Documentaries
Not quite a documentary, but a theater trailer describing tea-tasting in 1945. The impact of World War II is apparent in that normally there would have been separate people to fill the kettles, measure the tea, and do the tasting, rather than one person for everything, and the taster would likely ha...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
Drinking a 2021 shuixian from Seven Cups. Not sure if it's quirks of this season's harvest or intentional, but it only seems to do well with gongfu brewing for me. A fine tea made that way, though. :D *Edit: Maybe should have had some more water beforehand, though -- this one seems to be a headache...

Re: What White Are You Drinking
As for what white tea I am drinking, I had some of that 2001 white peony from Silk Road Teas -- a nice tea for getting lost in thought. :) More of the same. :D I get the impression this must have been fairly harsh for a bai mudan when it was new for it to have the raw materials to work with 21 year...

./download/file.php?id=11170 ./download/file.php?id=11171 In the 1920s, Salada was known for its skill in creating publicity stunts, where newspapers would cover the stunt as news and in the process provide Salada with advertising. Maybe an example from 1987 -- Michael Jackson at the height of his ...

Re: Value of tea recommendations
I consider the third item very important - different vendors are very obviously taking different approaches with different marketing (from a ton to almost none) and, in some cases, a different picture of what they want us to believe we're saying about ourselves when we buy tea from them And I also ...

Re: Tea commercials
An ad from 1968 for the Canadian tea blend Red Rose; apparently if you drink too much tea you will turn into a strange dancing man who uses tea to smooth over social class tensions. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsiQSNN7XdY It's interesting that the only thing specific to the blend mentioned a...

Re: Tea commercials
A puzzler -- Lipton trying to sell Darjeeling tea in 1982. Were they trying to play off the Roaring Twenties nostalgia of the 70s, or was something else going on here?

Re: Hong Kong style milk-tea (絲襪奶茶)
I've given up on Yuenyeung -- either too advanced for me, or I just don't like instant coffee. Gave this another go -- the inspiration was reading an old New York Times editorial about how hard it was to get a good cup of tea in New York that ended with a quote from a regular tea-drinker: ''O...

Re: Lost-in-translation teapot designs?
No clue about this one. A pot by George E. Ohr, who was considered a local tourist attraction in his day and only later appreciated as a potter. Reminds me a bit of an octopus -- perhaps the tea is the ink?

Re: Tea commercials
This is an interesting one -- an American Anglophile all-girl rock band from the 1970s, Fanny, doing a public service announcement for tea.
