Re: Interior crack inside yixing lid

Damn that really sucks to hear. I mean if anyone knows the shop's contact details on 171 Queens Road Central in HK that would be great but I'm not hopeful. I paid around £200 for it 😞 You may try to stabilize it with Permabond, a FDA & EU approved food safe adhesive but it does contain BPA as appar...

Re: Interior crack inside yixing lid

I wouldn't worry too much. One of my pots has a similar crack - late 1970s/early 80s green label zini. Been using boiling water without too much care ./download/file.php?id=14243 The crack in his pot is more severe and extensive. I think it is likely to separate whereas yours is likely to remain th...

Re: Takashi Ichikawa article

I have one of his older kettles and after seasoning it makes the softest textured water. I love it so much I've bought a backup and a third as a gift to a dear friend. She says it makes "cloud water". I also have some of his plates and a teapot. The teapot is really beautiful with an iridescent, met...

Re: Impossible to completely pour out water of kyusu with stainless steel filter - normal or not?

It's the mesh. I tried tilting town the spout and then laying a paper towel onto the filter. I immediately becomes soaked, and when I return the pot to its normal position no water flows back. If I just tilt it down and shake hard, then return it to the original position, all the water flows back. ...

Re: Warming up teapots

One trick I found is stick the cup of the gaiwan into the opening of the water kettle. The cup sits on top of the kettle and the steam heats up the gaiwan. It's basically an easy way to double boil the gaiwan. I like this trick because it doesn't involve wasting water and you can even do it when br...

Re: The Essence of Tea

Now trying some gold medal rougui from essence of tea Aside from a very strong rougui aroma, it is not very good. In fact, I am tempted to reset my teapot with percarbonate after having been exposed to this material... I tried a packet of this one again after reading your comments - you're quite ri...

Hello Japanese tea experts, I am reviving this thread hoping for a good quality 2023 Gyokuro vendor recommendation. Happy to order from Japan.
Thés du Japon has impressed me more than others for all Japanese teas.

Re: Hi and HELP! WHAT IS THIS?

I second what Pedant has said and will add that you may want to use a bottled water with lower minerals and TDS. That’s a lot of scale. I use mineral sachets for mineralizing distilled water for coffee (tea doesn’t need these) and my dedicated kettle for coffee develops scale rapidly. I use a light ...

Re: Bottled tea

I have a very specific question for a friend, but I’m giving this topic a more general title, in case other people will be wanting to add to it over time. The question for a friend is about a specific Ito en bottled tea, called “bold, green tea”. He’d like to start with tea leaves and prepare somet...

the size and thickness of CZ pots is also usually not a good match - they tend to run small and be thin walled. not great for teas you tend to brew in larger pots and that want high heat retention.
Another fine point!

Re: Yixing

Bok, I read an earlier post by you that mentioned you have a (few?) Antique CZ pots. Have you tested how these tend to fare with Shou Puerhs or Black Teas? I appreciate sweeping generalisations are dangerous, just meant subjectively in your experience... I realize you’re asking Bok but I’ll add my ...

Looks great. There are stands of giant bamboo on Avery Island (moku, iirc). I know that various bamboo societies volunteer to care for them there. The bamboo societies also sell pieces from harvesting.

wave_code, do you have any recommendations on where to look for vintage cups. I've checked some online shops and seems like a majority are sold out. Thanks in advance for any advice you might have.

Re: What tea strainer do you use?

When brewing casually for myself, I don't filter. Doesn't matter which tea it is. When tasting or brewing for others, I might, depending on the kind of tea - it mostly comes down to how broken it is. Doesn't stainless steel affect tea taste? I was thinking of buying those but was afraid that it mig...
