Re: Shu Recommendations for Sheng Lover

aet great stuff... Loose leaf PE is a bit of an anomaly for West facing vendors... I didn't even think of mentioning it but loose PE can a great joy and bargain! Here in France, loose leaf shu pu'er seems to be the most common. Asian supermarkets will usually have a tuo or two and some tea bags, bu...

Re: Shu Recommendations for Sheng Lover

My experience with shu from YS isn't particularly extensive, but definitely try the 2019 Lao Man'e and the 1999 Menghai Basket Aged Loose Leaf Ripe . The Lao man'e is unlike most other shu you'll find. The Hui Run cakes are sort of the high-end of the YS range of shu. I've tasted the 2011 and 2017, ...

Re: Fu cha recommendations?

Zhen Tea supposedly has some really nice hei cha. Thanks for the recommendation. Would have loved to have checked them out, but whatever HTML5 code that they tried to spice up their site with is preventing me from clicking on anything to get off the first page. Definitely a case of form over functi...

Re: Fishy smell in Yixing clay storage pots

Careful with the vinegar, as that could leave a smell/taste of its own.

If you're going to use vinegar, don't mix it with baking soda. Since one is acidic and the other alkaline, they'll just neutralize each other. Do the vinegar treatment first, then the baking soda.

Re: Characteristics of Shou

Not exactly what you're looking for, I suppose, but Yunnan Sourcing has a decent selection of single-origin shou. Could be a good place to start. Since they're under the YS brand, there's also a chance Scott can tell you more about them.

Re: Fu cha recommendations?

Exquisite Leaves is probably your best bet. Certainly the only specialized shop I know of. Yunnan Sourcing also has some.

Re: Can this tea be saved?

Do I just put a boveda pack into the storage tin? Yes. You don't have to worry about it touching the tea. When the pack eventually dries out, you can recharge it by putting it in an airtight container with some water (but not in/touching the water). For me it usually takes a few weeks to fully rech...

O-Cha has this which is significantly cheaper: https://www.o-cha.com/matcha-powdered-g ... atcha.html
No idea how good it actually is, but O-Cha is a respected vendor.

Re: Matcha Tea Newbie...

Whenever someone asks me about the health benefits of tea, my answer is that it's not bad for you, probably good in fact, but that they should drink it because they like it and consider anything else a (slight) bonus. So after a good bit of reading and searching I stumbled onto a site talking about ...

Re: High-quality tea subscriptions?

The W2T subscription is definitely not just a way for Paul to get rid of unwanted stock. In fact, some months have apparently been anything but trivial to do. It's a good mix of different types of tea, with a focus on pu-er. Oolong Owl has reviews of most of them here: http://oolongowl.com/category/...

Re: Small Batch(~30kg) Ripe Puer Processing Resources

Paul from White2Tea is also in on the small-batch hustle.

Edit: Don't remember where I got this info, but there are a number of different ways of doing small-batch, with the basket method apparently not necessarily being the best.

This article seems to be about the same tea: https://teajourney.pub/tasting-notes-ye ... olong-tea/

Perchs description makes a bit more sense after reading that.

Re: Ripe-Raw blended cakes

I have a sample of the 2016 "Wild Purple Green Mark" from YS. It's definitely shu first, sheng a distant second.

I really like it and will be getting a full cake with my next order.
