Re: Yamada Sou+Mizuno Hiroshi

Next a woodfired pot by Yamada Sou. This pot was originally purchased from a gallery in Japan. This is the first and only wood fired shudei pot I've seen by him in this shape. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Eda3RfekxRrwhjDPcI2QhmpWchJkad1w https://drive.google.com/open?id=1h4WcAD5pyeG7JwCpmLxYKZy...

Yamada Sou+Mizuno Hiroshi

A few more teapots up for those looking for a new teapot to use for shincha later this year. This will probably be my last sales thread for a very long time so for those who are bothered by seeing my "for sale" threads up, don't worry you'll be getting a break from them all very soon :D First up for...

Re: [WTS] Hokujo, Ito Gafu and Toju

I think Victoria nailed it in saying that it has a mostly neutral effect on green tea. The only thing I would really add is that Gafu's reduction shudei is really able to bring out a lot of the aroma that my other pots don't seem to be able to pull out. I'm not sure if this has to do with the reduct...

Re: Y. Hiromi Woodfired kyusu

For anyone interested, I have up for sale now on a ebay a wood fired teapot by Yamada Sou.
Instead of creating an entirely new thread, I thought it may be a better to save space in the forum and instead just add a link to the pot here :)

Re: [WTS] Hokujo, Ito Gafu and Toju

Looking good. I have an older Gafu reduction pot made in a similar style to yours; super light, great pour and perfect lid fit makes it one of my most used pots. Also I just love the suction effect when you put the lid back on when the pots wet :D

Re: Y. Hiromi Woodfired kyusu

Very nice pot, I like the shape. Looking at those wood fired patterns, it makes it very obvious where the Taiwanese go their wood firing techniques from! The colourings and patterns created by fire and ash are very similar to the pieces one can find in Taiwan, yet the craftsmanship is often less re...

Re: Y. Hiromi Woodfired kyusu

Thanks Victoria. His pots exhibit some of the most spectacular youhen/natural glaze effects. I can't really say I've seen anything that compares to them. He also manages somehow to get a lid fit just as good as any non-wood fired pot. Almost makes my other wood fired pots feel "off" in comparison to...

Y. Hiromi Woodfired kyusu

A post I happened to see here on Teaforum early last week of a particular kyusu reminded that I had a pot by the same artist sitting around unused. This was a pot I wanted for quite some time, but after receiving it I realized that I don't feel particularly comfortable using pots this expensive and ...

Re: Ode to the Kyusu

It’s something special for sure. I’m minimizing my teaware and wanted a few very special pieces and this is one of them. He must still be making some one offs, because I have a hohin on the way from Chaki Chaki. Thes Du Japon gets some of his stuff still too. Lucky you :D I've wanted one of his hou...

Enjoying the rain and my Yamamoto Hiromi.
Very nice! One of my personal favorite kyusu makers.
He's been retired for a number of years now but I always love seeing his work

Re: Yamada Sou Mayake Kyusu

I have seen pots that were wood fired or were made from clay not made from the local clay still being referred to as 万古焼 (banko ware) seemingly only because the potter who made them worked in Yokkachi identified themselves as a "Banko ware potter". Since Banko ware refers specifically to a geograph...
