Re: Your day in tea

Drinking some Simpson & Vail's "Fancy Darjeeling", a blend that was worked up (as far as I can tell) to taste like old-style Darjeeling. Not bad, although I don't have any old-style Darjeeling to compare it to. :) It took me a little while to understand Simpson & Vail as most of their teas I have tr...

Re: Assassin's Teapot

I think this is a new name for an old concept. Dual-chambered pots were for having tea with folks who refused to drink tea, so you could have tea in one chamber and coffee in the other. This was to save space from the older version where a tea-set in a mixed-drinking region would come with two pots,...

More Nor Sun, such an agreeable low-effort tea. :D However, I'm not seeing it around anymore -- maybe the blend has been discontinued?

Re: Lost taste due to Covid

Without my tea there is no longer any light in this world. Supposedly during lean years in China, people drank poor-man's "white tea" -- plain hot water. :) Not much flavor, but still an excuse to get together. When people get older, it is common for their sense of taste and smell to fade, although...

A Moroccan lifestyle-branding commercial for Sultan green tea.

Maybe interesting to compare, a 2022 Egyptian lifestyle-branding commercial for Rabea black tea. :)

Re: Tea commercials

Ah, I see this has been moved to "News, Publications, & Research". :) Interesting things going on with Canadian tea by 1995, as apparently a tea could be a tea if it was a caffeine-free frozen concentrate flavored like something else, although we do see a return of the Red Rose style dancing tea-man...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Still working my way through a batch of Mark T. Wendell's Royal Red Robe -- it was already starting to have those slightly tired old oolong notes when I got it, but is still in OK shape. Really agreeable. I'm not sure how they do their oolong blends, so I don't know if eventually someone will order...

Re: How to make authentic Southern Iced Tea from scratch?

Thank you for the informative and articulate response! In terms of the more modern popular black tea that Lipton, Arizona, Luizanne used to make their Southern Iced Tea, the Ceylon Uva/Kandy style tea that you've mentioned, is that more like black tea or dark tea? Or more specifically which of thes...

Re: How to make authentic Southern Iced Tea from scratch?

There are two schools for Southern iced tea, based on whether appearance is the most important thing or not. If it is, then the tea to go with is one that remains clear when cold. Under British standards this is usually treated as poor-quality tea, but as iced tea is often served in glass, having cl...

Re: "Russian Caravan" teas

An 1869 opinion on Russian Caravan blends by the American Bayard Taylor, from his travelogue, "By-ways of Europe". In it, he also suggests another potential addition to Russian Caravan blends -- silver-needle tea. :) Given the geography, my guess would be Junshan Yinzhen tea from Hunan rather than ...

Interesting article- "Where have all the tea bloggers gone?"

https://www.teaformeplease.com/where-have-all-the-tea-bloggers-gone/ Fortunately, tea-blogging seems to be bowl-shaped, in that while those in the middle of family or mid-career responsibilities sometimes struggle to do more than just drink the tea and enjoy it, both the young and the old enjoy talk...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Some "Brandy Oolong" from Mark T. Wendell -- a polite name for a pleasant tea. :) If they were using older tea-terms, the accurate one would probably be "Winey Oriental Beauty", but without tea-context that seems like a name that wouldn't go over well...

Re: What Black Are You Drinking

More Victorian Afternoon, a very nice smoked Russian Caravan from Mark T. Wendell. Personally, I think it is their strongest blend, as it relies on something they are good at (smoked tea) without being exclusively smoked tea, which I appreciate as someone who can only handle so much Lapsang Souchong...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Drinking some Tie Luo Han from Seven Cups -- like in previous years, theirs is a tea that loves a regular-old-5-minute-steep. :) If you are trying to tempt any tea-lovers into considering oolongs who might be more used to that format than gongfu or gaiwan brewing, I feel this is a good one. If they ...

Re: Can anyone help with identifying who made these teapots?

Following the provenance of the Ebay pot might help. See if you can get the seller to mention whose estate sale the pot was from. Some sellers won't want to say, while others are OK with this. Then, contact relatives and ask about if they remember the pot and where it came from. This can be an awkwa...
