Re: New teapot smells strange

I don't have much expertise here, but do have quite a few modern pots. Some came to me with no smell, some came with a burnt smell like being fired in a kiln. No matter though, all smells went away after boiling in water just one or twice. Have you soaked the pot in water for a few days continuously...

Can taste change within weeks

I've been enjoying a lot more raw puers lately, and going back and trying my taiwanese oolongs I've found them lacking. Can drinking so much puer cause my taste buds to adjust and enjoy other teas less? Been trying some of my older teas over days and do not find them as enjoyable, based on my notes....

Re: Warming up teapots

How about using the oven? I use an oven to dry my teapot after use, I could use it to warm it up before use. I have just been pouring boiling water in my teapots until now. Though I usually use porcelain gaiwans. Correspondingly, won't a hot teapot cleaned with cold water after use also have the pos...

Re: Some of my teas acquire a sour soybean taste and smell

Good whites get better with age but all aged teas that taste good will go through a phase where they aren’t so good, though not necessarily a rancid smell. I believe what you are smelling are oils in the leaves going rancid. I can only speculate whether this odor will pass with time. My hunch is th...

I do noticed a source note in aged white tea when I over steep it. Maybe you can try less leaves, faster steep, and a slight lower temperature to see if it helps.
I did note that a lower temperature makes the sour note disappear.

Re: Some of my teas acquire a sour soybean taste and smell

Another question, some aged whites Ive tried have been sour, but after a rinse or two, the sour is gone. Happened to a few of them to be a one off. Just typical aged white funkiness?

Re: Some of my teas acquire a sour soybean taste and smell

I could put the oriental beauty in the oven and see how it goes :) Let me try that for experimentation.

Re: Some of my teas acquire a sour soybean taste and smell

Thanks it just happened today when I re-tasted an oriental beauty. I gave it really high marks originally, now two months later it's sour. Can't imagine it being high humidity indoors but maybe some condensation occurred. A month ago I kept doors and windows open for a week to air out some paint sme...

Some of my teas acquire a sour soybean taste and smell

Especially whites, but have had it for a few oolongs and blacks too. Wondering if it's a storage issue.

It's just been at most a few months.

Re: Recommend loose leaf raw puer storage

Thanks for the elaboration it really helps to understanding the intricacies of this. The only reason I want to age some loose leaf puer is purely because I have extra and some are really rough at this young age. So if I screw up some it's perfectly fine. But I definitely don't want to be too casual ...

Re: Recommend loose leaf raw puer storage

Why the paper if it's already in a porcelain or metal jar?

And is it calligraphy rice paper? It looks porous compared to say wax paper?

Im in nor cal which is dry.

Any glass container will work. If you plan to drink them, I may even consider a zip lock bag
Because without something air tight like a zip lock bag, the tea will go "bad" with the dry conditions?

Recommend loose leaf raw puer storage

I'm looking to store some loose leaf raw puer. Accidentally bought too much for current storage.

Need about 700g of storage, could be one big container or a few smaller ones. Something nondescript would be nice. Maybe a clay jar. Not too small that a boveda pack won't fit.

Thank you ahead of time :)
