Re: Adagio overtakes Steepster ?
Ok, here goes ... As a general rule, I rarely discuss in detail what occurred on TeaChat in 2017. Partly to not bore peeps but also so I do not have to relive it over and over. However, the Steepster topic has fundamental "facts" that are blatantly NOT TRUE. I therefore feel compelled to share here....

Re: Ode to the Kyusu
Interesting. I have purchased 4 Ito Gafu kyusu over the last 4 years. They are all very Japanese in style ... no resemblance to Yixing. Each are very finely crafted. I'll likely continue collecting his work. I became interested in his work due to his indirect albeit connection to Yamada Jozan III. H...

Re: Ode to the Kyusu
Student t, I purchased a Mokusen shudei kyusu and liked it so much that I purchased several more! Yes, because it is sculpted versus wheeled, the walls are thicker but not clunky thick. The direct wall filter has handled every sencha I have thrown at it. Something about this kyusu makes it very appr...

Re: Shincha 2020, "the Year of COVID-19"
Victoria ... the Yame. The dry leaf is so aromatic that it is hard to believe this is just shincha. Reminds me of Asanoka dry. The selection is from www.hoshitea.com Brewed tea is very nice for a few steeps. But seems like perhaps I could brew it better. There has to be more flavor hiding behind th...

Re: Shincha 2020, "the Year of COVID-19"
If you time your Artistic Nippon order just right, Toru includes an awesome gift! Yame Shincha. Had his selection 2 years ago, and we really enjoyed it ... very Yame in character. Potent aroma that blew me away, rich brothy umami. Surprising Jo in the morning with this year's selection ... and some ...

Re: Shincha 2020, "the Year of COVID-19"
Florent just posted an interesting article about Kagoshima tea. I also feel the same way as what he wrote here. “...They are essentially shaded fukamushi sencha with a rather strong roasting in general. Kagoshima does not highlight an old “tradition” or style, but produces tea according to market d...

Re: Shincha 2020, "the Year of COVID-19"
Kettl Mebuki . Sae Midori cultivar. Ok, this has not been what I expected of a Sae Midori. Each sencha including shincha goes through a brief roasting as part of its final processing. Too little, and a sencha can be lackluster. Just right, and you will not notice it but the roast adds to the select...

Re: Shincha 2020, "the Year of COVID-19"
The tea has a lot of broken fragments and dust. It smelled great. Honestly, It was not very good. I have very little experience with green tea, so I dont know how it is "supposed" to taste, but this was super thick and almost salty. I will try using less tea and cooler water. Also, I will not prehe...

Re: Shincha 2020, "the Year of COVID-19"
How much was the shipping price difference (if you compare with similarly heavy order made with Japan Post)? Japan Post is usually super affordable (at least when I order from Thes du Japon, which is my goto-shop for all teas Japanese..) and reliable, at least to Europe. I have limited experience w...

Re: Shincha 2020, "the Year of COVID-19"
Pretty surprised and very happy! A week ago, I still was uncertain whether I would be able to obtain Shincha 2020 direct from Japan. Then, I was really uncertain how long a package via FEDEX would in reality take ... if it would face delays, etc. Today much to my amazement, Shincha from O-cha arrive...
