Re: Hongni and zhuni F1

Hello What's the difference between hongni used in F1 before and after 70's? Why F1 didn't make zhuni or dahongpao teapots and nowadays market is full of them? Thanks Zhuni / DHP isn't good for mass production. And F1 produced teapots more based on the finished look than the raw ore. So having a re...

Re: Clay porosity

One last thing, is the reason I gave so much importance to porosity and measuring it's effect and excluding all other things, is because this thread is called "Clay Porosity". So I assumed to solve focus was on that and how to measure it and try to see what it does, by itself. Just to make it clearl...

Re: Clay porosity

I agree that these things should ultimately be disentangled from each other. I also think that from a consumer point of view, the holistic effect needs to be considered. Here is thing many people don't know about pharmaceutical development. The exact way a drug works - that is - its actual mechanis...

Re: Clay porosity

Is it the ash glazing or the reduction that you object to? Reduction (ash fired) teapots aren't glazed. I'm talking about the way most reduction fired teapots are made in Japan / china. The reason is, because it seems many people report different effects than what might be expected of the same clay...

Re: Clay porosity

I'm also thinking if reduction fired, or at least certainly Ash fired teapots should be removed completely from the discussion, because they seem to have weird effects, that skew the data. Is it the ash glazing or the reduction that you object to? Reduction (ash fired) teapots aren't glazed. I'm ta...

Re: Clay porosity

I find the problem with your method is that it shows thing's after the fact. We want to know what happens during brewing. Basically what gets trapped in the clay. You could think of it as a filter. Based on the size of the valleyes different things and amount of those things could be trapped. In my ...

Re: Clay porosity

Okay, so on the first picture you can see my poor illustration of an emptied teapot where the water is trapped in the pores, but there is still some excess water left too, which could be “tapped out” or wiped away. On the second picture you can see a teapot full with water, the pores saturated. And ...

Re: Clay porosity

Thanks I just did it. I will report the findings a bit later. A very busy day Okay: ./download/file.php?id=9803 Based on this, the modern zini is more "porous" than reduction mumyoi. However, reduction mumyoi is much more rounding. I feel the difference here is possibly more reflective of surface a...

Re: Clay porosity

LeoFox Btw, tap drying means that you hit the pot upside down against your palm, with a tea cloth in it. Not tapping the cloth on the inside of the pot. And when you to to the second wiping step it's better to measure more than once to see how the weight changes. Usually I do it till the weight sta...

Re: Clay porosity

When you say my results are inconsistent, you mean inconsistent with the hypothesis that porosity scales with rounding? So you are saying with your wet pot method, you find good correlation with muting? I will try it with 2 pots- one I know is muting and one that is not I will use modern zini (neut...

Re: Clay porosity

LeoFox The reason you get inconsistent results is because the way you measure the water absorption introduces too many points for failures in measurements. For example you let the surface of the pots dry completely. This will make the measurements flawed, showing higher water absorption for thinner...

Re: Clay porosity

LeoFox How did you do your porosity measurements? And what equipment did you use to measure it? Also, how did you evaluate the effect of the clay and separate it from the effect of the teapot? I explain how I measured porosity in my first two posts. I'm not sure what you mean by "effect". if you me...

Re: Yixing

Youzi you’re right, the technique is clear. For me the actual circumstances at the time are still less so, due to lack of sources on the topic. Did I remember this wrong or is Wuni actually really(really extinct this time) rare? Or not usable in pure form? I can not recall ever seeing one old or ne...
