Re: What Green Are You Drinking

Just these days I refrained from ordering a tea just because the color of the liquid appeared to be "too light" to my eyes, and I thought where should the flavor be in that colorless liquid? Might have been a mistake. I guess I should try tasting with my tongue than my eyes :D I can certainly appre...

Re: Spoiled Rotten

I keep a bag of cheap armchair from Maeda-en around for sparkling sencha. I cold-brew the tea and then carbonate and drink it chilled. Nice armchair makes it even nicer, but it is a fine way to enjoy some not-so-fine sencha. I forgot about Maeda-en. I haven't drank their teas for a while. I doubt I...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

I have no images to share, but I did want to write about my first taste of kabusecha tea. My order came in from O-cha a couple of days ago. I didn't know what to expect because I wasn't familiar with this tea. I just knew I wanted to order something different from my previous order, so I thought I w...

Re: CostCo goes Japanese

Vanenbw, you are vegan, so disregard my scallops descriptor, my apologies. I think another good descriptor might be roasted nori. Oh, I'm not bothered by that. :) As long as there aren't scallops in the tea leaves, I think I can handle the scallops reference. I will probably be trying O-cha's kabus...

Re: What Black Are You Drinking

When I tried Laoshan black tea, I loved it. Only several months later I was moving on to other black teas that I preferred which does not mean I will forget how much better the Laoshan was than what I had been drinking before I tried it. Enjoy! Thank you. I have always enjoyed tea, but it never tas...

Re: What Black Are You Drinking

Thanks, @Bok. I guess I never really knew for sure what kind of tea they serve at Chinese restaurants. I also tried an oolong tea from verdant that I liked. It was a sample they sent me with another purchase. I liked it so much I bought a 50gm package of it.

Re: What Black Are You Drinking

I tried some Laoshan black tea from Verdant tonight. It's sweet and fruity. I really enjoyed it. I don't recall if I ever had back tea before. I used to think the tea they serve in most Chinese restaurants is back tea, and perhaps it is, but it doesn't taste anything like this black tea. I ordered s...

Re: CostCo goes Japanese

Guess I'll have to try this tea as well. I just received my package of Kabusecha from O-cha today. I'll place an order on Amazon for the Kabusecha from Birouen. I finished a bag of O-Cha’s organic kabusecha as I was starting this bag of Birouen’s, so it was a good opportunity to compare them. I fou...

I'm looking forward to trying it. I haven't tried kabusecha before.

Re: Spoiled Rotten

Phew...I was just about to start having withdrawal symptoms, when mercifully these two welcome friends arrived from O-cha today.

Re: Spoiled Rotten

I have been in a similar situation and purchased some sencha from Whole Foods. It actually cost more per gram than ordering from Japan... so I became even more spoiled and now keep a decent stash of tea in the fridge so that it never happens again... telling myself that doing so is more reasonable/...

Spoiled Rotten

No, I'm not referring to tea that's been sitting around my apartment in an unopened bag for the last ten years. I'm calling myself spoiled rotten. You see, I used to be an ordinary old chap. I dunked bleached tea bags in piping hot water in my trusty Starbucks coffee mug (I don't even drink coffee, ...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

I cannot say if preheating is "right" or "wrong" for any given tea or vessel. I can say, however, that it makes a difference (probably a bigger difference the smaller the teapot is). In my tests, I would say it is worth about a 5 degrees Celsius difference in water temperature in my teapots. Not pr...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

Most of the time, I use my (rather small) teapot full, so I do not measure water. However, if I need to, I find using a scale is nice : it is already out on the counter (I always use it to measure leaves), and it avoids having another vessel to take into account in water temperature control. Recent...
