Re: Nixing, Jianshui, etc
I remember when I first saw some of K.S. Lo's collection in 1993 or so (on a school field trip)! I still remember my shock and disappointment when some of the more vocal members of my class very loudly proclaimed they thought the pots were boring and the trip was a waste of time and just wanted out ...

Re: Telling the difference between sheng and shu when both have been stored Hong Kong style?
Also, on sheng vs shou (traditional storage/wet storage): Some shou can get thinner than water after traditional storage (and the years of natural storage that follow). They literally go down smoother than our very soft water here in HK! The TDS definitely goes up with tea compounds in the water, bu...

Re: Nixing, Jianshui, etc
The Nixing pottery supposedly has a history of 1300+ years, so it's interesting to hear that the teapot focus is relatively recent (would be even more interesting to know when these teapots started being produced and became more widespread). One interesting tidbit from an earlier tealifehk listing ...

Re: Telling the difference between sheng and shu when both have been stored Hong Kong style?
Gotta do my taxes today, and pack up several boxes, so I'll keep this quick: Shou was originally meant to imitate HK traditional storage or 'wet' storage, which often involves selecting a particularly humid basement or even adding water. Good shou and good traditional storage sheng can be somewhat s...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking
Had some loose shou from 1980 yesterday: a trade sample from a HK vendor after we got talking about traditional storage shu pu. He gave it to me at the beginning of the month, and absolutely made my day with it since I was born in 1980. I saved the sample for my birthday (yesterday), and put the wh...

Congratulations on the new place! We've missed you on Discord. I'll let everyone know about the news and maybe a few of the east coast members will swing by! Would appreciate it! Official opening will be later this week (probably Thursday, although the poor weather here might disrupt things). Thing...

Re: Pu-er Drinker Wannabe
I have a cake of the 8891 somewhere in a storage (with a perfect wrapper); to be honest, i've found it a bit boring, like there is nothing wrong with it, but nothing great either (but that might be expected for the price). The best is to try samples (25g) of several teas of different ages. Try some...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking
Drinking some 1980s shou produced in Thailand for the HK market! HK traditionally stored, and then naturally stored for decades. Really good material and lovely light bitterness and ku wei. Very smooth and clean with more thickness than I'd expect for the age: this was beautifully stored. Perfectly ...

Re: Chaozhou style brewing: wet or dry?
CZ brewing is great, and I use a round pewter tray from Shantou vs a tray with hose at the office. CZ brewing is not really something that is done dry in the Taiwanese sense, since trays are used (I don't know about historically, but at least for the last century or so it's usually round trays that ...

Re: How do you use this? (bag sealing clips)
Our tea comes packed in plastic, and shipping internationally is far worse than using a plastic rod that can be reused for decades (and can be recycled)! The rods do get reused, which is better than plastic strips on packaging (which will get discarded, especially if there is paper bonded to the pac...

Re: TeaLife.HK -- Classic HK-style Teas!
The Hong Kong economy is taking a hit at present due to our struggle for freedom: I'm offering 18% off through the week on all teas that are roasted in Hong Kong, sold by Hong Kong's tea merchant families or that were aged here in Hong Kong. This keeps more of your money in the local economy, which ...

Re: Anyone know what this is??? (plastic in cake)
If I have a tea that has unusual storage aroma or smoke, I just sit the whole cake somewhere for a year or two (in HK natural storage). That usually drives it off unless it's been stored so wet that it got visibly moldy.
