Re: Musings on Dancong…

Right, I've had fragranced teas that people ten feet away could smell! That's when you know you have a serious issue. : I can confirm after that afternoon, that there are indeed completely natural teas that fill a whole room with delicious aromas! The only issue you have there is that you have a tr...

Re: Green oolongs losing flavor within 2 weeks of opening

I roast gaoshan when it drops off (baozhong as well). Something to consider!

Re: Teapot identification

At that size, it would be a young sheng pu erh/maocha pot for me. :)

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

https://www.instagram.com/p/BlxEn39HPoh/?taken-by=tealife.hk Tried the cake above today. Barely any flavor at this point: just bitterness. Smooth and clean though! And the start of aged flavors. This is a cake I need to wait on. Hopefully it'll be more interesting in a year or two! I'm pretty sure ...

Re: Typhoon damages Puerh in Guandong

Being that I do trust my sources, I am more concerned about how this will effect market pricing. I dont keep my finger on the pulse of the price of pu, but im sure that there are those here that do. I would imagine that fluctuations are already being seen. This will barely have any effect on the ma...

Re: Typhoon damages Puerh in Guandong

I don't think we'll see this tea end up on the market. What we see in the pics is a tiny amount compared to the total amount in storage in Guangdong!

Re: In search of the daily RouGui

I currently have a good, clean (pesticide tested) Banyan Rougui from 2017. It's $0.48 per gram before the 18% discount I'm currently running. IMO it would make a great daily drinker!

Right, I've had fragranced teas that people ten feet away could smell! That's when you know you have a serious issue. :D How about those dancong that have evolved into a dancong that can be smelled all over the room? In 2016 have had some high grade medium roast dancong which came with very subtle ...

Re: Musings on Dancong…

A good way to gauge if dancong has been fragranced is if it smells like anything dry. Good dancong often has very little aroma dry. Once the water hits it...boom! I enjoy sniffing the first-opened Dancong tea pouches from Tea Habitat before I've removed any tea. It often gives a nice preview of wha...

Re: Longevity of Tea Leaves: Sustaining Multiple Steeps

As a general rule, better quality tea can be steeped more times than other teas of the same type. I no longer overnight brew (I haven't done that for several years), and I try not to leave tea overnight as often it seems to lose a lot after the overnight rest. Some teas just die if left overnight (s...

Re: Yixing Cleaning Advice

So there's been a fair bit of attention around this thread today: I want to add that I've since tried ethanol, isopropyl alcohol, hydrogen peroxide and sodium perchlorite. Bleach works the best, hands down. The other solvents will have varying degrees of utility. Ethanol and isopropyl will remove ce...

Re: Musings on Dancong…

Here's my CZ pot! I really wouldn't put any fine dancong in it. I'd be more apt to use Yixing hongni, but even then, I'd prefer porcelain for the good stuff since the good stuff is so complex and really doesn't need any kind of muting.

Re: Musings on Dancong…

:D :D I tend to use a gaiwan for dancong brewing. I do have a very nice Chaozhou pot made by a renowned artist, but I feel it takes away too much from good dancong. For lower grade dancong, it really helps make the tea much more approachable. Got pictures of that pot? Would love to see a well design...

Re: Rethinking the appropriate size of pots

Here in Hong Kong, a few of my dealers only use Green Label or older Factory 1 pots for sessions. One dealer exclusively uses hongni, even for the oldest pu erh! The other family use 140ml shuipings for high fire oolong, and I've done the same ever since they introduced me to brewing gongfucha with ...
