Re: Clay Kettles

That's a lovely setup! Do you season your kettles, like you season your Yixing pots (cooking with used tea leaves)? There are many ideas around this for ceramic kettles: rice water, flour, tea, etc. Personally, I do not season with anything other than the water I plan to use the most. I'll let the m...

Re: Smell of loofah pads

Out of curiosity, for how much are they sold? I think it must be a good business to sell these, they literally cost nothing as they are basically the waste of an edible vegetable :) Some tea shop in HK is selling 3 pads for $40 USD. I can buy a pack of 20, though without stitching, for $7 USD. I wo...

Re: Chaozhou/Shantou

LeoFox - I like the wet look of it. I don’t know why your range sensor is having difficulties focusing on the pot. All the reasons I can think of would only occur in extremes. The hues and textures of these reddish teapots have always been photographically elusive. I try to recover the color by adj...

Re: Why is glaze acceptable on Tokoname Clay, but not on Yixing/Nixing/Jianshui?

There are some wonderful answers above that go into great detail. I’ll contribute a kind of TL;DR comment to the subject: 1) Porousness is a poor indicator of a given clay’s effect on tea. 2) Double-porousness is a myth except in under-fired pots (& HQSN?) and is unlikely to do anything good* for te...

Re: Effect of pewter on puer

I am aligned with Balthazar and think there is an environmental reason for the difference. One thing to note is that if you are using municipal water in the US (I do not know your location), there are often seasonal differences in water. A change in mineral content could make a radical difference in...

Re: Leafy Green Tea

harrison1986 , I’m just looking at the last few posts and admittedly do not have experience with Leafy Green’s teas. The timing on that second infusion looks long to me and may be why you would want to throw it out. Regardless of what the timer says you will want your infusions to be about the same...

Re: Yixing advice

Gong_Fu_Chaddict: That pot looks like a good purchase for a first Yixing pot. I have heard good things about these EoT pots, although I don't have first-hand experience with them. They certainly seem very reasonably priced. (I would personally go for the 130 ml version of the same pot - it's priced...

Re: Pictures of sand iron (satetsu) Tetsubin? Especially used ones

$4k USD could enhance my tea experience much more thoroughly if spent on something other than a tetsubin. Japanese iron isn’t especially good for engineering so I wonder what benefits, if any, this iron brings to water compared to less expensive Japanese iron. I find tetsubin to be heavy and impract...

Re: Yinchen Studio

teabug , I am curious about the awkward knob. Do you have photos? I have pots that pour slowly but I adjust and use techniques so that speed is no longer an issue. Fast pouring pots are an exception in my collection and do not always correspond to the quality of the teapot. There are other factors ...

I am glad people have mentioned Tillerman and Ethan. Tillerman has delicious oolongs and I’ve heard very nice things about Ethan’s teas from some of the individuals above. I’ll also add my local tea house called The Steeping Room : https://www.thesteepingroom.com/ Some of their teas are very good, e...

Re: Fake teapots

This may be minor but I have a concern that this would demonstrate to fakers how we are identifying their counterfeits. It would also serve as a way for them to key in on elements that suggest authenticity.
