Re: Oolong Vendor Topic

I order from HY Chen via FB Messenger, others do so on Instagram. He then provides updated price list. I always do large group orders because I know he’s a small farmer producer and doesn’t really have infrastructure to do tinny sample orders. Thank you for the advice, good to know he’s still in bu...

Re: Oolong Vendor Topic

Hi everyone, Has anyone here ordered oolong from HauYing Chen recently? It’s been a few years for me, and I noticed the most recent teas on his website are from spring 2022. Wondering what would be the best way of getting in touch with him, and ordering a selection of his current offerings. Would b...

Hi! I'm very interested but not able to message you because I'm new I have written you a DM :) Thanks a lot, I have seen it. It appears that I'm still too new too new to answer you (or too stupid), but I'm located in Vienna, Austria. That should suffice to figure out shipping costs until I figure o...

Re: Teaware Repair Show-off

Experimental tin repair. I've used a lead-free plumbing solder here. It took some effort to get it right, since the melted solder has quite a lot of surface tension and prefers to form ball like shapes. I was surprised how much torching the zini plate have withstanded in the end without cracking. ....

Re: Cleaning: Awakening & Resetting Unglazed Ceramics / Yixing

I haven't tried percarb yet, mostly because I tend to have bicarb on hand for porcelain. I usually do a warm bicarb soak, followed by light scrubbing with a chunk of loofah, warm white vinegar soak to neutralise, finishing with boiling water rinses. Never had to contend with any tough staining thou...

Re: Vendors of Japanese porcelain ware (Arita, Hasami) and clay teaware with glaze inside?

I have a small collection of porcelain and glazed kyusu that I use for some darjeeling, high mountain oolong and sencha. Slowing I’ve found at online auctions porcelain kyusu that are <140ml mostly Kyoyaki that are both back and side handled, some houhin and shiboridashi. I managed to find a few >20...

Re: Bancha vs Sencha:Which is sweeter?

I would say Gyokuro is the least bitter, least grassy, and most delicate Japanese greens that are not roasted. Bancha is just a lower grade Sencha (harvested later), it is then either just steamed, or further roasted, smoked, or fermented as in Goishicha. Sencha is probably overall sweeter even on t...
