Re: Shu Recommendations for Sheng Lover

I've tried lots of shu puer from YS. Some of my favorites are out of stock now and I haven't sampled much in the past few years. Not sure your preferences so here's a range of options. Their house brand is pretty good too. I haven't bought tea from Crimson Lotus. https://yunnansourcing.com/collectio...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

Here's a good discussion on toxicity in ceramic glazes, with the most informative posts by JBaymore: https://www.teachat.com/viewtopic.php?f=85&t=16523&hilit=lead+glaze&sid=c6de1dd6ad102b51f42e9ba59b45525d Apologies for the off-topic posts, I'll go back to drinking puer from my questionable vintage ...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

@faj If all clear glazes had leachable lead that would certainly be a worldwide health issue. There should be some governmental resources on the interwebs with more info on that. You could also check out posts by "JBaymore" on the old Teachat. He's a ceramics professor with great insight.

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

Basically, all red glazed antique cups are very likely to leach lead, this style in particular almost 100%. Got it, thank you. I try to be cautious with gold rim or red cups and just use them occasionally. I'll lead test these and see what comes up. I like these cups, but don't use them but once or...

Careful with those cups, these red ones leach lead.
Oh really? Thanks for the warning. I had wondered, but never lead tested these. I rarely use this set. Is it all cups in this style or this glaze color?

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

I'm curious how everyone purchases puerh so that you get older tree material and not some wild bush stuff that is not good at all. Does the verbiage used on vendor's website even match up with reality? I think it's most important to get tea that you enjoy. Try different types of tea to distinguish ...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

2005 Wild Tree "Ye Sheng Cha" sheng pu er brick of Dehong. I pulled this from the back shelf and was pleasantly surprised. I'm not much of a ye sheng cha fan, but I like this brick. Perhaps it's due to the dense compression and more hot, humid storage. It's also smoothed out after 5 years in my stor...

@thommes
Yes! Good color and clarity. I got it from Chawangshop. It's gone up in price since I purchased, but still worth it I think.

2003-2005 Hong Tai Chong ripe pu er. Lovely tea. Hits all the right spots for me. Smooth, vibrant, aged and medicinal fragrances. Just pulled a cake out after not drinking it for a while.

Re: Tea Factory versus Private Production

By tea factory do you mean larger producers like Dayi or Xiaguan, or any size tea factory? I tend to avoid large producers because I assume large agricultural productions can mean reduced quality of the raw material. I think it is the same with any agricultural product. The popular brand can also me...

Re: dried out tou

Tea stored poorly usually does better with a little time in better storage - although if you like how it brews now then it might not be an issue!

I made the mistake of throwing 7 grams of leaf into a 80ml gaiwan and the raw puerh already had some astringency. Wew lads, it kinda ruined my morning :(
Uh oh! Quite a strong brew there! It happens - good time to move those leaves to a bigger vessel or take some out.

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

Another good tea day...

1999 CNNP 'Original Ecology' shou pu er. Aged and ginseng aromas. Smooth and clean. Good longevity. A delight to drink.
1999 CNNP Big Red Mark sheng pu er. Starts out earthy and woody then follows up with a floral huigan. Good tea, short on longevity.
