Re: Humidity Control: DIY Salt Packs

Awesome write-up! A few tidbits/questions, since I've been messing around with it over the last couple of weeks. Is there any need for concern about the sucrose growing anything undesirable? (Not that I have any reason to think there is, just a question that springs to mind. An alternative to the su...

Re: PuLogger - Cheap DIY monitoring and control for pumidors.

You mean like a Kickstarter-type deal? Honestly I considered it, but I don't know enough about organising electronics manufacturing at any scale to hold myself responsible for any significant amount of other people's money. Part of the beauty of something like this is that you can put it in any give...

PuLogger - Cheap DIY monitoring and control for pumidors.

tl;dr is that I'm developing a free open-source GUI for Windows (and probably Linux) that allows users to monitor temp/humidity, log T/RH over time and produce graphs easily, provides alarm functionality for too-high/too-low values and (in future) controlled heating. The devices themselves use inex...

Re: soapy bubbles on brewing tea?

Not that this is necessarily the place for it, but since anyone with a brain can connect the dots and identify said vendor the vendor was caught in the act of a rather unsporting astroturfing campaign Is not how I'd characterise what went down as much as "vendor was caught bashing on competitors on ...

Re: Bad storage pu-er cakes, vendor declines a refund. Any way to rescue?

Depending on what kind of bad smells/tastes you're talking about (and since it sounds like you're SOL on a refund), I'd leave them with a bit of humidity and/or fresh air and let them chill out for a month or two before you panic. I bought three (different) 08 Dayi cakes a few months ago - each was ...

Re: Tea pot spout dripping.

For what it's worth (and I know someone's going to crucify me for suggesting this) a strategically-placed swipe of food-safe silicone grease (like Molykote 111) under the lip edge is often enough to ensure a perfect pour. Invisible, and you might have to reapply maybe every six months. Mmm interest...

Hah, I had this this morning as well!

I think maybe I'm just not a fan of super-young sheng - my first thoughts were "Come back next year". Not a problem since i bought it to store for a while.

Hi, I'm Alex - Pasadena-area LA County (if anyone wants to meet up for tea). I drank sencha for a year about five years ago when espresso started causing me problems, then picked it up again a year ago. An ABC friend bought me some shu pu'er for my birthday, and that was that. I'm all about sheng pu...

Re: Bonavita Electric Kettle at Teavana 50% Off Plus Free Shipping

Is there a difference that effects steeping between a "rolling boil" and what is just before that, bubbles, steam, etc.? (To the best of my knowledge) Yes - broadly speaking, when you're seeing some few bubbles, only a small portion of the water is actually at 100C. At a rolling boil, more of the w...

Re: Bonavita Electric Kettle at Teavana 50% Off Plus Free Shipping

One thing worth noting about the Bonavita - great as it is - is that it's not great if you want a rolling boil.

The PID brings temperature up to setpoint without overshooting, so when you set the temp at 100C the last few degrees are kinda slow and it never seems to reach a violent boil.
