Re: Jasmine tea and unglazed clay

This pot wasn’t used enough to need resetting. It was sitting in the back of the cabinet for several years so all I needed to do was fill it with near-boiling water and let that sit overnight. Jasmine is the only scented tea I like so there won’t be any competition in the future.

Re: Jasmine tea and unglazed clay

I have a bag of 2020 organic jasmine from Rishi that I was unhappy with. When brewed in a porcelain gaiwan there was an unpleasant flavor note that distracted me from enjoying the tea. I was inspired by this thread to root around in the rear of my teaware cabinets for a neglected unglazed clay pot t...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

I realize my message was not good since it makes it seem all western LJ is bad. Probably not the case. For brewing parameters about 1 min and then add a 5-10s using gaiwan. I think they look at how the leaves behave more than using a timer. I use a timer and I try different temperatures hahaha. Leo...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

The 2 longjings I purchased (from 7 cups) definitely have that nutty flavor. They just don’t leave me craving more. Seven Cups categorizes an ji bai cha as a green tea.

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

I also have an issue with longjing in that it never quite measures up to my hopes. Last spring one monthly EOT Tea Club selection was an exquisitely delicious longjing. It actually reminded me more of An Ji Bai Cha, which is available later in the spring. I’m trying 2 early teas this year and someho...

Re: Your day in matcha

Yes - a beautifully glazed outer surface to enjoy while mixing, and that beautiful pool to admire when I’m finished. If necessary, I’ll scoop out a foam puddle to expose the pool.

Re: Your day in matcha

Oh my chuaraho one is the first picture, aka my workhorse one :) its the one responsible for the lovlely foam ones you see :D The new chasen is the one in the second picture which I found out is made for the Omotesenke style but can be used for a even silky foam. Curious - does the new chasen make ...

Re: Your day in matcha

Very nice new chasen ! It looks like a Chuaraho one, these are good to make koicha, but harder for usucha. It all depends whether you want a lot of foam in the Uransenke style or just mixing the tea and the water in the Omotesenke one. Omotesenke people feel like our way of whisking matcha turns it...

Re: Your day in matcha

Janice, do you find the type of glaze and clay of the chawan ever impact the flavor and aromas of the tea? Also, do you find the type of material used in the whisk matters? I have 2 chawan both of which I purchased from American craftsmen who use food safe glazes and wood fired kilns. One has a glo...

Also ordering a hand made chasen from a Japanese master on Etsy. Really hope I achieve the similar results as ya all
My chasen, which I purchased from o-cha, is also hand-made, in Japan. I’m curious to know more about the one you purchased on Etsy. Can you post a link to the shop?

Re: Your day in matcha

When EMS shipping from Japan to the USA shut down a year ago I began exploring options for ordering matcha that was already here. I bought a 100 gram bag of Hoshinotsuyu from Setsugekka, which is located in the East Village of NYC. Someday I’ll be able to go there in person for a matcha-making lesso...

Re: Electric Kettles

When you’re ready to stop pouring water return the kettle to vertical and the water in the spout will run back into the kettle instead of onto the table and floor. I have the 1l gooseneck and that works for me.

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

I had a stress dream, or nightmare, that I broke the yixing pot that I bought from Bok. I was relieved to come downstairs to breakfast and find the pot waiting for me. It’s a moderately small F1 70s Roubian, and any puerh or oolong I brew in it tastes as good or better than in any other pot I own. H...

Re: Premium Silver Needle Vendors

I’ve bought silver needles from Rishi tea in the past and it’s been excellent. I’m tempted to purchase the wild silver needle but I just have SO much tea here.

Re: Shipping delays from China?

Essence of Tea posted today about confusing (my description) answers they received from china post about parcels that were sent to Shanghai May 19. They may or may not still be at the airport. They may or may not have been sent on to other countries that had more flights to America back in May. I do...
