Re: The Porcelain Thread

I have got a question regarding vintage/old Chinese porcelain: What do you look for when buying porcelain? For example, I have seen a teapot on Chadrinkincat's Instagram page. He wrote that this would be a pre-CR teapot. This style is very common in Germany and does not seem to be linked to a speci...

Re: How do you use this? (bag sealing clips)

You can find non-branded versions on ebay for pretty cheap ($2 or so for a set of 8 of various sizes), although nothing less than 12cm. Just search something like "seal stick storage". Shipping is likely to take a month or two though.

Well, We may as well talk about it. Its all over the news in the west. Id love to hear from people living abroad, as our news outlets are...questionable. Whats the word out there in the world. Ill admit, I am not ordering any tea until this gets resolved. It’s triple all over the News in Asia I can...

Re: Is tea a spiritual activity for you?

In terms of Eastern philosophies, I suppose you can find making tea, etc. spiritual, as Chan Buddhist used to say that you could find enlightenment from even the most mundane tasks such as sweeping the floor everyday. Moreover, ritual could also be used to find the "way" in different philosophies su...

Re: Disrespect your tea

If one wants to get a lot from a tea, then one must commit to it, own enough of it to experience it, not just b e exposed to it. Hmm. Would you say that someone who has lots of experience with brewing decent but mediocre tea compared to something maybe Bok was trying to brew, would generally make b...

Re: Teas best suited for grandpa style

Do people still do the initial "washing" of the leaves with grandpa style or is that step just completely gotten rid of? If so, how do they do it, if e.g. in a mug? If not, aren't they concern about dust, dirt, or pesticides, etc.? Rinsing is for washing the dust and soak up the leafs. The first ( ...

Re: Aged white tea

This same pot is now the pride and joy of 66 year-old Mr C. M Wong, Secretary of Singapore's Chinese Chamber of Commerce and acting President of the China Society, who collects Yi-Hsing ware teapots and a wide variety of inkstones besides porcelain and jade. Yi-Hsing clay, from the Chinese province...

Re: Organic Tea

In this case what does organic mean? Does it mean simply not using any pesticides, or does it mean more of the US type definition, where you can use pesticides, but "organically" approved ones.

Re: Porcelain bowl ID

Looks pretty new to me, based on the shininess of the glaze and whiteness of the porcelain. The blue has a purpleness to it too, usually pointing to late Qing/Republic but the base doesn't look correct for that period.

It does appear to be hand painted though.

Re: Tariffs on tea - US

Taiwanese teas shouldn't be affected, except for the fact that perhaps more people would be buying Taiwanese teas to avoid tariffs, raising demand. That said... Since Chinese teas are unique and only manufactured in China, with little or no comparable substitutes, there's actually a good chance that...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?

Today, I steeped HY Chen’s high roast 100 year garden DingDing and it tasted like a badly roasted weak coffee. At first I wondered if I had stored the open 30gr pack too near my heating vent, but then I switched my filtered tap water with Nice! Iceland Spring bottled water and voila great roasted D...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?

Reminiscence: many aeons ago I read on a forgotten page that boiling water more than once is bad for the tea. Any thoughts on this? Vigorously boiling water reduces dissolved gasses in water, continuing to vigorously boil the water or immediately reboiling the water will change the “taste”* of that...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?

When you conducted the test did was the yixing you used high fired versus low fired, zhuni/hongni vs duan, etc.? Did you also try with boiled water to emulate more tea making? Perhaps with zhuni/high fired stuff, the TDS should remain somewhat the same versus other clay types. How did you conduct t...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?

Just wondering for those who have TDS meters, or other ways of measuring water quality. When you pour water into an yixing without tea, boiled or cold, and then pour it back out into a glass vessel, is there a drastic change in the readings? No change whatsoever in TDS. Do yixings change the water ...
