Iron in clay pots

How does the iron in certain clays effect the tea or their performance? I know that some factory pots (I think white label Hongnis) have some iron mixed in. Is that what makes them of “lesser” quality than older hongnis? Does it effect the tea? Also, many modern potters often mention about their tea...

Was the lid hole drilled out on this pot?
Ha ha, it was not. I don’t like to take risks with green labels. It is very nicely made but I guess it could pour faster with some filing

I would tend to avoid zini/qingshuini though.
Steanze, Im sure you are also familier with experienced drinkers that prefer zini/qsn with yancha. Do you think it is just a matter of preference? Or is it strictly to manage the roast?

Re: ID help... Guihuasha clay

….Just break the water seal during your pour if you want it faster...… Can you please explain? Also, I live in the west and therefore my knowledge is inevitably limited, but surprisingly I have seen more experienced drinkers that choose Zini/QSN for yancha than such that choose red clay. Have you e...

Re: Yellow Spots on Yixing Clays

I won't claim to be knowledgable but it looks similar to the surface of a pot I bought from YS last year ( https://yunnansourcing.com/collections/yixing-teapots/products/jin-hei-gang-clay-xi-shi-yixing-teapot-130ml ). From the description, I guess it's sand. Yes, I guess it is sand, but I'm just wo...

Yellow Spots on Yixing Clays

So this is a JiangPoNi Shi Piao that some china based vendor sells. I'm not that interested in the pot as I'm in understanding what are those yellow spots that one often sees on pots? Is it because the clay was mixed with some material? Why is this usually done? For aestatic reasons? (BTW - I'm on t...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

there is no point in drinking tea from xxx location, it is not a name that matters, it doesnt matter if the tea "is real or fake" as we often see people caring so much about online. this isnt just about just yancha but about a lot of tea. what it matters and the reason why certain teas become, as a...

Re: Essence of Tea _ Wuyi Yancha

I won’t say anything about eot. I’ll just say that it’s not the best way to “educate” yourself. Try a representative variety! Try a Rougui, a TieLuAn, or a Qilan! Eot is a boutique with quality stuff but they curate, they do not try to represent the flavors of WuyiShan..: Make an order with Lazy Cat...

Re: Valley Brook Tea

Their instant pour over tea set is actually nothing more than a Japanese coffee pour over... Those things are all the craze now in Taiwan, China and a bit longer ago, Japan. But does it make good tea?? :D To be honest, I never thought about using pour over with tea. I don't really see the point. Bu...

Valley Brook Tea

Just had a very good experience with a recent purchase from Valley Brook Tea—a new vendor in the U.S., and it seems like a good idea to share. According to the owner (which was very nice and responsive through Facebook), they are a Fujian based supplier of Fujian teas (yancha, whites, and blacks) th...
