Re: What Green Are You Drinking
Victoria I wonder if using fewer tea leaves may help alleviate some of the bitterness from the Futsumushi sencha. I really can't comment on it because I'm not familiar with this particular tea. I'm constantly adjusting my tea leaf to water ratio and keeping notes so I can achieve the optimal flavor...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
Enjoying a kind gift, an Oku-Midori cultivar, futsumushi steamed sencha, from Thes du Japon; Miyakonojo, Miyazaki, Oku-Midori. As in it’s name, it is from Miyakonojô Town, Miyazaki Prefecture in southern Japan along the Pacific. Biscotti bakery aroma is coming off the preheated kyusu. The liquor is...

@Baisao You are like an enlightened yogi. I would surely climb the highest peaks of the Himalayas to seek out your sage advice on brewing tea.

Re: Your day in matcha
If I'm using my smaller pots, I would have to stack infusions to fill cups that size. I usually brew in my 360ml kyusu when drinking from my 300ml cup. It was my first chawan that broke me of this belief, as I've written about before, because at the time Petr Novak sent me this piece https://live.s...

@Janice Good point. I suppose there is no reason why it has to be filled to the top. I guess I just like seeing it almost filled to the top.

Re: Your day in matcha
I've been eyeing this lovely piece by shy rabbit....such gorgeous dripsicles!!!!! https://i.etsystatic.com/5549319/r/il/d7f120/2153408377/il_794xN.2153408377_8ayk.jpg It's very nice. I always drank out of larger cups, and I did recently purchase a 300ml Arita-yaki cup from O-cha; however, I have re...

Re: Your day in matcha
debunix is the forum member that donated the chawan to the fundrainer. Not surprisingly, her photos are much better than mine. I already own several (actually 6) ShyRabbit cups but this is my first ShyRabbit chawan. https://www.teaforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=741 They are really wonderful photos....

Re: Your day in matcha
I went to page 7 to see the video Janice mentioned, and the first thing I was struck with was this beautiful chawan Janice purchased from shy rabbit . I love it. When I first joined the forum, I learned of shy rabbit's work from a posting by debunix . Very nice stuff. I will browse some of his offer...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
There is science behind anything we do. The difference is just if we know about it or not ;) Well said. Again, a little off subject because I'm referring to sencha here and not oolong, but I did try an all-day-long steep after I had a few infusions of sencha this morning. I poured boiling hot water...

Re: Your day in matcha
I've been drinking cold Ippodo Seiun matcha recently. Not sure if people typically drink it this way; but when I'm in a rush I put 2-3 chashaku scoops into a glass with a small amount of water (2 parts water to 1 part matcha) and use a milk frother until its mixed well. Then I pour cold water in wh...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
Interesting. Who would have thought there was a "science" behind brewing tea. It would have been nice if this was offered as an elective when I was in college.

Welcome to the club ;) Thank you, I'm glad to be a member. :D Very nice, Vanenbw ! That hohin looks even more attractive in your photo than on the website. Thanks to you I am, once again, browsing the Kobiwako stock... curse you :D Enjoy! Thank you. I had to find out what all the hype was about. I'...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
I'm sure there are some good support groups out there for this rare--and oft times--misunderstood, disorder.
Now I'm going to have to try an overnight steep with one of my teas. I'm curious.

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
One of the "sweetest" most wonderful brews I have had the pleasure to drink was a gyokuro prepared for me in Uji by a tea producer there. He started the brew and then set it aside while we continued to chat. Five minutes went by, then 10 then...it must have been brewing at least 20 mins. All the wh...
