Re: Greatwheel//Greenwoodstudio
New items up on Shawn's Etsy right now, including some like this translucent porecelain gem, with the handy flared lower rim that is finger-sparing with very hot teas! https://photos.smugmug.com/Tea/Greenwood-Studios-Wares/i-ZhzvkSJ/0/d2075084/L/Steam-L.jpg If I didn't already have my little gem abo...

Re: Is refrigeration for Japanese green tea necessary?
I am content with the quality of my sencha and gyokuro packs that are kept continuously at room temp once the bag is open, except for very limited circumstances. Yes, it may take more energy to heat the water than to reseal a canning jar with tea in it, but one is a necessary act if I am going to en...

Re: Is refrigeration for Japanese green tea necessary?
I can only tell you what I do with my tea, which is leave one package at a time out and open, a quantity that I can finish in 2-3 weeks max. I only resorted to the canning jar because necessity for comparison tasting required multiple packages to be open at once. I have vacuum-sealed portions of tea...

In contrast, while I can appreciate my gyokuro concentrated, I like it better brewed closer to sencha, but in smaller vessels and quantities and savored with fine chocolate

Re: Is refrigeration for Japanese green tea necessary?
A while ago, I kept a few empty bags and tested them on a vacuum sealer, without any content, just to see if they would seal. They are thicker than the bags typically used for vacuum sealing, and it took longer for a good seal to be achieved, but it was otherwise successful. I wonder how vacuum sea...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
Best infusion yet with 2014 Phoenix Village light roast Shui Xian Oolong from you non-sourcing. This is a tricky tea that is taken a while to understand. It is responding best with strong floral notes when infused briefly and fairly dilute a bit like a Dan Cong; treating it more like a typical high ...

Re: Is refrigeration for Japanese green tea necessary?
I trust the bags they are in when still sealed/unopened to be fridge-odor-proof. I refrigerate and remove at least 8 if not 24 hour before opening, and only open what I will use next, one sencha or gyokuro at a time. When I made an exception for our recent gyokuro tasting, I put the remainder of eac...

Re: New Work from Shy Rabbit
Like all of my ShyRabbit yunomi and chawan it’s even more beautiful in person than online. It is quite lovely, and I had a hard time deciding between that and one other in my most recent purchase from him. I have (or have had, sigh) a couple of Shyrabbit pieces whose drama in his Etsy shop photos w...

09 Zhong Ping Village Zhi Lan Xiang Dan Cong from Tea Habitat. This is the tail end of a batch that has been sitting in a nearly airtight container in the desk in my office for quite a while. I'm infusing it in a fully glazed tiny Petr Novak pot and enjoying it from a Greenwood/Great Wheel snowflake...

Re: Refrigerating brewed puerh tea
There is a flattening of some flavors as the tea liquor sits in contact with air after brewing, that is not kind to aggressive younger shengs. I've enjoyed some shu pu, like the fine plummy Lao Cha Tou I get from Norbu, cooled and even chilled, but it has mostly been because I didn't finished it whi...
