Re: Yunnan Craft
Hello. I still need to order my set of fresh 2023 tea and I've been waiting for stock at some certain sites (Thes du Japon for one) and I think I'm going to give Yunnan craft a try as far as the Chinese side of fresh teas are concerned. I've noticed it seems some vendors seem to be taking longer to...

Re: Yunnan Craft
That's fair and I understand aet. I'm mostly bummed about the order not working out and I wish we could have found a solution. Hopefully sometime in the future. I respect the integrity of the goods on your site and your desire to keep shipping costs separate (though in my admittedly American view i...

Re: Yunnan Craft
Might be worth checking what exactly happened. As far as I know, there are several ways to request money on PayPal: classic money request with just a simple message -- a lazy way to request for businesses, but acceptable say for domestic shipments from one-man operations paypal invoice (with space ...

Re: Yunnan Craft
I've gotta say, this is one of the most disappointing tea purchases that I've made. I was looking forward to doing a side by side comparison of Yunnan Sourcing and Yunnan Craft orders, even down to their value teas. Instead, I have one completed, shipped Yunnan Sourcing order on the way and one can...

Re: Firing of yixing and the hype/scam of woodfiring
2 methods of fake wood firing are known to me. 1) firing in electrical kiln first to the point when clay is stable - no risk of contraction - , then put it in actual wood firing kiln ( discutable if fake as the pot actually went trought the fire on wood , just not all the time ) 2) controling variou...

Re: Xiaguan tuo differences/knowledge...
Good summary aet, thanks. The production area is not that big as I was expected , but they manage to make / process and press lots of tons of tea alrigh. [/i] By production area, do you mean the facilities where the teas are processed after picking or the plantation area(s)? I would have guessed bo...

Re: Xiaguan tuo differences/knowledge...
XG is kinda continuing their traditinal concept of smokey hard pressed tea which I believe is for the original purpose and that's exporting to Guangdong , HK ..etc. Smokey notes turn into the interesting fruity-camphor notes after some time when wet stored and hard pressing guarantees slow but stead...

silver teaware
Few questions for silver teaware owners. What do you have ( pot / gaiwan / pitcher / cup / piece of silver in the kettle / anything else ) ? Any particular tea preference for using the silver? What is the change in taste ? Have you done A-B compare blind test to drink only water ( with and without s...

Re: An Ode to Czech Potters
Basically the same I can say about Ukraine. About tea shops -- I think they all just buy from Taobao or sth because lots of similar stuff is sold everywhere. Usually the price is 30-50% higher than ordering same stuff from China. And prices, well, no one is going to buy quality tea here because ave...

Re: 5 things to buy when starting with tea
sorry for being so negative , but I think , non of it you need at all ;D 1. tea tray - unless you are buying hard pressed bricks or tuos , you can easily chip of the cake without damaging your table or hurt your self. 2. puerh pick - as already mentioned here , can do with any kitchen tool / knife ,...

Re: No old trees for foreigners anymore! ;D
I think they are just afraid that laowai would buy their old tea tress ( I believe some rich Korean did ) which is their pride. Maybe they've seen some foreigners become tea farmers here and don't want them to be owners of old tea trees. Maybe they are afraid that with popularity of puerh the foreig...

Re: No old trees for foreigners anymore! ;D
(If google translator doesn't lie), seems only fresh material (seeds, seedlings, fruits, leaves, etc.) is being restricted. Not that it's a good thing, but processed tea should still be freely purchasable by anyone. It is worth mentioning that the "Regulations" also clarify that foreigners are proh...

Re: No old trees for foreigners anymore! ;D
I think they found out too much old trees being exported since every second western online shop has some 800y old trees etc. DDDD and yes, good tool for marketing now. Everything claimed over 100y old can be increased on price now ;-D Probably starting even from the tea farmers saying ; we sell u 30...

From next year foreigners are not allowed to directly purchase leaves from tea trees over 100y old.

Re: Tea-derived caffeine
I've heard form one chemist - biologist that caffeine also irritates your kidney so you might not feel being boosted ( because tolerance or you just don't realize it anymore ) but you going to wc more than you would if drinking only water or other , non-caffeine , drink.
