Re: Toju brown clay
I say you go ahead and find out for us! Kidding, I do not need another amazing Japanese clay discovery in my life obligating me to purchase more things... cursed be Hokujo and Kobiwako clays! From a visual point of view the tone of Tojus clay looks not dissimilar to the darker part of Hok...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
With Japanese greens on the last steep, I do an overnight steep most nights, using same steeping temp as I began with. In the morning, it’s a hydrating sweet diluted version of the next to last steep. If I forget to drink by the afternoon, I gift that extended steep to my plants. I think we each fi...

Re: Sample tea from Verdant
Wager was for Victoria. I am too poor to lose to all teaforum members :D I kind of realized it after I posted my comment. Anyway, it was an interesting point you brought up. I'm new to Chinese teas, so I really appreciate the samples I received from a few companies I've purchased from. Since I don'...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
Thank you for the tip, Victoria . I placed the leaves on a paper towel and patted it. It didn't completely dry. I hadn't considered doing an extended steep. I thought it would end up bitter. If you tried that with sencha, I would think the long steep would render it undrinkable. I'll have to try tha...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
I'm sampling a light roast tieguanyin anxi oolong tea from Red Blossom. I'm about on the 5th or 6th infusion. I had a few cups earlier today, then dried the leaves and put them in the refrigerator. They seemed to preserve okay for the next several hours. The tea has a thickness to it, almost like a ...

Re: Sample tea from Verdant
It is an interesting wager, but I cannot say what I will do. The yabao tea I was not crazy about. It didn't taste much different than chamomile, which is a tea I never truly enjoyed, but drank once in awhile either to relax me or settle my stomach. I also tried a sample this afternoon from Red Bloss...

Re: Sample tea from Verdant
No, not bad at all. I also received a few samples with my Hojo order (my kobiwako houhin arrived today). The samples are of Chinese teas, so I will probably brew them in the gaiwan since my kyusu pots and houhin are dedicated to Japanese greens.

Re: Japanese Teaware Vendor Recommendations
Thanks to everyone for these postings, and thank you, Victoria for starting the thread. There were a few vendors I didn't yet know about. I purchased my first kyusu from https://www.hibiki-an.com/ . I followed up with a purchase of porcelain cups, a sami scooping spoon, and a yuzamashi. The service ...

Sample tea from Verdant
I purchased 5 sample teas for $5 from Verdant. It's an offer for first-time customers. The first tea that I tried is a Yabao tea, which I believe is an herbal tea. The flavor is reminiscent of chamomile. Most of the time I drink only sencha, but I have been wanting to try some Chinese or Tawainese t...

Re: Disrespect your tea
One should not approach tea with fear or trepidation lest they should "screw up" a brew of expensive tea. My thought if that if you are so nervous about not brewing an expensive tea correctly, then don't even drink it, because the reason for drinking tea in the first place should come from a place o...

Thank you, @Jo. I love the hagi cups. What size are they, approximately? Finding the right cups to drink from is so important, isn't it? I love my new Arita-yaki cup from O-cha. It truly enhances my cup of tea. I'm drinking some sencha from it right now. Thanks for sharing the photo. I love it.

Re: Gaiwan
I'll be brewing oolong for the most part, its my fav. I see we both got an electric kettle at the same time and now going toward gong fu brewing at the same time. Do you have too many samples like I do at the moment? I picked up a cute 100ml Little Horseshoe Tianbai Jingdezhen Porcelain Gaiwan from...
