Re: Your day in tea

This little guy is 'relatively' thin walled, maybe closer to medium, depending what it's compared to. At around 85ml it's the perfect size for me with black and white teas. So far it's just a little bit muting. Most high notes are present at first but make way for the warmer mid flavours and the bod...

Re: Your day in tea

Today a new to me Sou Yamada aoyu teapot finally arrived. I am running a few different teas through it to see how it goes. So far an average Yunnan black and an aged white. I don't know how frowned upon it is to use Japanese pots for Chinese teas, but hopefully there is some general acceptance. Plea...

Re: Are we allowed to talk vendors?

I did start out with teas from YS a few years ago. It was good because of range and accessibility. The other brands they stock are decent, as well as some of their own offerings, but one large order I placed with them made me nearly stop drinking tea. Everything I bought tasted either bland or actua...

Re: Blocked teapot lid airhole

I too don't hesitate to open up an air hole of it appears to be too small on the inside (if there is a blockage , excess clay, or simply poorly made) providing the work will not be visible. I use the diamond bits mentioned in the link Pedant provided, but I have them mounted to a wooden pencil-like ...

Re: Teaware B&W Appreciation

It would be great to see a few of his pots here. Toju was definitely a great artisan.
It's hard to choose just one, but this kyusu was the first Japanese piece I purchased and the details on it are great.
Many people appear to have his work so at least he will live on for a long time.

Re: Teapot repair books

The only book I have that is worth reading is
China Mending & Restoration by C.S.M. Parsons & F.H. Curl
It mainly focuses on rivets and related repairs. There is a decent amount of detail and illustrations.

Re: Daxue Jiadao 大学夹道

My yancha experiences have been pedestrian at best, but still very enjoyable. I couldn't help but jump on board and placed a small order overnight. My pockets aren't quite as deep as others, so I am waiting on a couple of their cheaper offerings, along with the laocong tieluohan. The price of postag...

Re: Can't Contact Hojo Tea

I can firmly recommend Toru (Artistic Nippon) as I have made several purchases and had a few conversations with him via email. He has gone beyond what I would expect from regular customer service, and he may have items that aren't listed on the website, as has been the case with all of my purchases ...

Re: Can't Contact Hojo Tea

I went through this twice several months apart last year and never received a response. I was under the impression that hojo was incredibly well regarded, but I had heard that sometimes he may not respond for a while. After my second attempt at contact I have given up trying to purchase teaware from...

Re: How to tie knot on Japanese boxes

I had a good laugh when I saw this post because it reminded me of the many tedious times I have sat over a box delicately trying to replicate how the knot was originally tied.
I too would appreciate some tips here.

I am somewhat impartial to Toju's wares.
Here are most of mine, but I have added a few more since taking this photo.
