Re: Pu-er Drinker Wannabe
I'm not sure. I suspect it has something to do with the fermentation process that occured in the dui wei process or fermentation that started due to improper storage. Ok. So I'm a gardener. The reason I garden is so that I have material to compost. That's what I say at least. I love to compost. Bac...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
Would be interesting to compare this ‘scarce Tokoname clay for shudei brick red teapots’ with Junzo’s Kobiwako clay that is pale yellow, so probably has less iron. Janice have you tried if this shudei clay affects the taste of water? His Kobiwako clay makes water sweeter and less textured . I have ...

Re: Loose Tea Broth
Noah, enjoyed hearing Shiuwen talk about mouthfeel and texture of Taiwan oolong, always special to hear this, along with the hilarious exchange you two have. I too find porcelain gaiwan so neutral to be too neutral with many oolong, not enough heat, although it can provide a baseline to start brewin...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
I’ve been so busy trying all the different puerh tea that I purchased years ago that I’ve been neglecting yancha. Today I’m drinking Hong Kong Roast Three Stamps Shuixian from Tealifehk. The pot is a 65 ml red shudei pot from Artistic Nippon by Maekawa Junzo. The clay used was described as about 40...

Re: Inaugural Group Tasting: Sinensis Yokkaichi & Ippodo Tokusen Gyokuro
Followed Victoria's advice and went with 6g and 42-50°C. I used Acqua San Bernardo , which, whilst not perfect, was definitely an improvement. Still a lot of umami but not as overwhelming as before. More grassy notes and definitely something sweeter, especially in the last infusion. Glad to hear yo...

Yamada Sou 180ml mayake kyusu. I put it back in box when reorganizing and just found it _ Looking forward to using it with roasted oolong. Anyone else that has a Sou wood fired kyusu, how are you pairing it?

Kakogoshima Seicha’s Organic Kabusecha Sencha, Smile Tea by Birouen Tea House. It won several awards and is priced below value. I’d buy it all except...

Re: Is tea a spiritual activity for you?
That is a wonderful quote. Thank you for sharing it. I enjoy the calming focus tea sessions provide, as well as multi-sensory awareness, and aesthetic engagement. I will say yes, it is a spiritual moment for me, elevating my awareness in the here and now, as I contemplate a humble simple reflective ...

Re: Inaugural Group Tasting: Sinensis Yokkaichi & Ippodo Tokusen Gyokuro
Finally got a chance to try the sinensis, went with the initially recommended 6g/4oz - 108F - 2min,2min etc. Out of the bag it smelled heavenly and brewed it was well balanced and mellow, a bit too mellow for my tastes honestly. After the first steep turned out light I figured the 2nd would have mo...

Re: Kyoto in autumn
A mention of Osaka first, if you are interested in architecture, both historic and contemporary. Tadao Ando's studio is located in Osaka as well as a few great works of his, and several other architects. http://voyapon.com/tadao-ando-osaka/ Japanese modern and contemporary architecture is part of O...
