Re: Taiwan Tea Crafts?

Randy the Intern , so many teas! As a biased (and pretty new) gaoshan lover, I'd like to add some remarks, hopefully useful in case you want to give them another try sometime. The Alishan seemed like your best best to get into them, but when I read how you finished it off grandpa style, it made me ...

Re: Facebook vendor: Chemical Free Purple Clay Exchange

First impressions are important so I’d just resell the pot if I were you since you don’t like it. Lol, the focus on my negative comment diverted from the fact that I don't actually dislike the pot. Not a fan of its pour, but clay taste & exploration are more important to me & so far it's an interes...

Re: Facebook vendor: Chemical Free Purple Clay Exchange

One trick that is often helping to avoid dribbling for me is (trying to describe it): classic pinch grip, tilt pot first without controlling the lid knob, then adding it towards the end of the movement (to avoid the lid falling off). I found this avoids the dripping for some pots. Can be pimped up ...

Re: Facebook vendor: Chemical Free Purple Clay Exchange

Does the pot still leak if you rest your thumb on the top nob instead of the lid? Finished a session with the pot and noticed 3+ drops every time I pour. Just tested your Q, 4 times per hold method with just water at the sink: pressing firmly at the knob produced 0-1 drops (0-1-0-1), pressing the s...

Re: Facebook vendor: Chemical Free Purple Clay Exchange

Andrew S The seller seems to offer genuine, EDXFR-checked clay, incl. half-handmade in the 3000-5000 NTD range. The 10K NTD ($330) range, where this pot is from, are fully handmade pieces in what you could call their "premium" category, just below the "luxury" ones offered @ >1K USD. As mentioned, ...

Re: Facebook vendor: Chemical Free Purple Clay Exchange

I don't think it is so much about pots in general needing to pour fast and clean to make good tea, particularly high quality teas. Many dedicated tea friends can ultimately work with the quirks and charms of older pots to make most teas work, and work well, enjoying this process. But if I buy a mod...

Re: Do you believe clay-specific heat retention contributes to brew quality?

Your experiment is neglecting a few things. 1. More water take longer to cooldown 2. Shape and volume of clay to heat 3. The temperature of the water after being filled (some of the heat was absorb by the clay to reach maximum temperature) I agree that my experiment is not to be taken seriously. I ...

Do you believe clay-specific heat retention contributes to brew quality?

One often reads that some clay has superior heat retention compared to alternatives. It's said about zisha in general, about duanni/luni compared to other Yixing clay, etc. Such qualities (whether measured or taken for granted) are then used when considering tea pairings: e.g. best to have a "cooler...

Re: Facebook vendor: Chemical Free Purple Clay Exchange

I don't care much about max. pour speed, as I can factor it in--in the first few steeps where it matters at all. Having good control, OTOH, is nice, since you can pour slower, which can affect what the leaves do inside the pot (e.g. not clog the filter). Not getting a satisfactory arc wasn't meant a...

Re: Facebook vendor: Chemical Free Purple Clay Exchange

teatray, I don’t see anything wrong with that pour from LeoFox’s copy. I’d be interested in seeing how you pour. My zhuni is a different shape (same clay). Here is a clip of it and two comparison pots. I think pouring vids should be interpreted with caution: they don't recreate actual use with hot ...

Is it considered rude to ask to see a video of the water pouring from the teapot from the seller before purchasing
Don't think so--above a certain price range, I wouldn't hesitate to ask, at least (definitely for the handmade zhunis).
