Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking
Hey I think this might be my first contribution to this thread!? Received an order a day early (there is a santa clause!). Having a cup of Golden Melon from YS. It's a 12 year shu pu.

Re: Finally Figured Out which Pot I want
I looked at some images for “Jing Lan” style pots. Some of them come close to the pot I saw in the video. The pot I saw was well take about a third of a pringles can, add a lid, spout and handle. Then scale it about 1/3 smaller? It was just about 100% a cylinder. I do like the “Jing Lan” style pots....

Finally Figured Out which Pot I want
So I've been looking and not buying, looking more, not having anything pot really slap me in the face saying PICK ME PICK ME!!!! The dragon egg shape is nice, but not me. The pear shape is nice, but not me. The oil lamp shape is, well just not right for tea. LOL. So I went for the last month, until ...

Re: Delivery From China?
Those that mentioned that it might not be sitting idle, yeah I agree. I meant to include that in the OP. I seem to recall my first shipment sitting a couple days and then poof the tracking history was updated and the package was sitting in my city waiting for delivery. It's the 8 days without an upd...

Delivery From China?
i placed my second order with the same supplier which ships from China. The first order was in early-mid November and arrived a lot sooner than I expected, less than two weeks if I remember correctly. This second order was for a substantially higher amount of tea and $$$ and I'm eagerly tracking the...

Re: Bing Size History
Aside from the price, I just wanted to add that if you are buying pu erh tea, the geometric shapes of bing, brick, and tuo have some influence on the continuous fermentation of the tea as each shape allow certain amount of surface being exposed to the environment. From personal experience, I have n...

Re: Bing Size History
Those are the normal/default sizes for those shapes. Everything else is considered mini or over sized such as 500g, 400g, 200g cakes, 100g bricks, 5g 50g tuo etc. A brick shouldn’t cost more than $100 is the same as saying $100 for 250g which amounts to $.40/g Ok I thought that might have been what...

Re: Bing Size History
No reference to size should imply standard weights. Cake/bing, brick, tuo = 357g, 250g, 100g I'm not sure I understand what you mean by this. The point was making is that I read comments where people would say "you shouldn't pay more than $xx for a bing" but since bings and bricks and tuos come in ...

Re: Bing Size History
Yeah 357 was the original size that the bings came in and I understood that much. Just wasn't sure if the smaller sizes was a marketing issue which it sounds like it was. Sort of makes it hard for when people make a comment like "you shouldn't be paying more than $xx for a bing, cake, brick, tuo" wh...

Bing Size History
I've been looking for information on the history on the sizes of bings. Everything I've been learning suggests that the typical size is 357g due to historical causes. However, on a lot of tea sites, the bings are much smaller anywhere from 100 to 200g. Wondering when the sizes started getting smalle...

Re: Pu-er Drinker Wannabe
Some of the tap water in Ohio is shockingly hard: are you using tap water? No I use reverse osmosis filtered water. Not sure if its my taste in teas. I like a strong flavored tea. Until recently, I've pretty much left the tea bag/infuser in my cup while I drank the tea. For the samples thoug...

Re: Coin Shape?
Yeah I saw those, but in a couple articles and videos I saw an ~ 6-8g coin shape wrapped in foil? form of the tea. Pretty sure the tea type was hei cha. Pretty much like in this image though the ones I've seen the center square is cut out.

Coin Shape?
Looking for the name of the chinese coin shape that some teas, Hei Cha? comes in. Trying to find some of these at either YS or Crimson, to buy and hand out as gifts. Haven't found anything on YS and not sure if searching by the term coin would find it or if there's another name I could try.

Re: Yunnan Sourcing
I don't see any currently available version of Menghai's Golden Needle White Lotus, which has a caramel background to the earthiness rather than the plummy fruitiness of the Lao Cha Tou. I've had several years' versions of this and it has been reliably delicious and tolerant of bulk-thermos brewing...
