Re: Tetsubin

I think I'm the only one who think Tetsubin is so overrated. It caused all my teas to taste less sweet :( you got the wrong tetsubin, or tetsubin/water combination. You may be right Bok since I am the only one who is noticing this. On a slightly different topic, I remember vaguely reading somewhere...

Re: Tetsubin

Any advice for a new Tetsubin owner? Gonna go get a hot plate after my classes end. Use it! The more it sees use, the nicer it will get. Most important ting is to immediately let dry open after use. Best is to heat a little water to boil, rinse out completely and let dry the steaming pot. This is t...

Re: What exactly is a british teapot?

mbanu that is an interesting development! Still I think it might have more source than one. Japanese stayed in Taiwan for a very long period and brought all sorts of cultural habits with them. And the yumazashi is part of the old Sencha do for much longer than the 1970s. It makes also more sense as...

Re: What exactly is a british teapot?

Reading through this thread it reminds me of a decade-old question I was asked by a customer: Did the British misunderstand what a faircup was for and, instead, simply repurposed it to hold the dairy? I had no answers then and I still don't now, but all this conversation on design and intent has ma...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Does anyone have experience with the taiwanese tea company tea struck? I was recently sent 150g sealed bag of their longfeng xia from 2016 from my dad. Hopefully still good to go after so long. http://teastruck.com.tw/en/process.php Price is 2800 NTD for 2 x 150g bags, which works out to be about $...

The green one should be equally bad as the red one. Similar glaze with different color. The rice grain maybe hopeful ;)
For what it's worth – a lot of these red one were actually mainly used for the house altar to pray to the ancestors. Set of three filled with tea or alcohol.

Re: The Porcelain Thread

Just wanted to share some cups I collected recently. I think the green and the red may be LQER while the rice grain pattern one is hard to tell. The green and red cups for sure are bad for drinking as they most likely have lead issues. Any seniors want to chime in on the rice grain cup? ;) ./downlo...

Re: Teas We Like : By and for Tea Lovers

klepto I do like modern Japanese tea cups, but the antique Chinese cups really intrigue me. Although most of them are known to contain lead, if you can find some that have been tested to be lead free, it’s like enjoying a cup of your favorite tea while appreciating the brush work from 100+ years ag...

Re: Your favorite Dan Cong vendor?

Has anyone tried yunnan sourcing dan cong? A friend of mine thinks it is sprayed but he is not very experienced. Price seems good.. If a tea is doped with something can look something like this: Fragrant smell only from the dry leaves but not the infusion. Fragrant smell in the first brew but not a...

Re: What exactly is a british teapot?

Apart from the obviously difficult definition of the matter, I can think of one quintessentially British teapot: the so called „Brown Betty“ and by extension any of the pottery workshops of the old UK.
