Re: Yixing

While we're on the topic of 60s hong ni... fake, real, or unclear? Sorry to subject you to a test, Bok, and likewise to anyone else who responds... It's mine, so I can take more photos in better light if it assists. I'll try not to t subject people here to too many more tests like this... Only one ...

Re: Yixing

bliss you got that one wrong, 60s should not have any mica spots at all. It’s a dead sure give away to be from another period of it has. Super interesting, thanks Bok! The following two images are from two different sources claiming the clay to be hongni from around the 60s. I will remain silent on...

Re: Yixing

How to tell whether a teapot has been colored with chemical additives or by reduction firing? Take this teapot, for example. I think the color (black) comes from additives. Would you use a teapot that looks like this? Yes, I own this pot. ./download/file.php?id=8191 For the black parts I thin...

Re: Pairing yixing pots with teas

I'm quite sensitive to bitterness, but my own tastes and views are of little importance. I was just wondering the rational of the hongni-long pour-thickness for aged sheng. I would brew any sheng with fast pour pots, but I think I see what you mean : aged sheng don't have a pronounced bitter profil...

Re: Pairing yixing pots with teas

No assumption or fixation here. If I take EoT 2001 Mengsa Old Tree that is an easy reach and drink for us, westerners, and a late F1 90s 85ml hongni quite high fired (also an easy reach in this part of the world) and if it's a 5-10s max pour on the first serves it comes flavored and with controlled...

I follow the same approach as Dr. Lv, I will only comment on pots people own upon request by the owner.

I shamefully forgot about y this thoughtful blog of yours! Thanks for reminding me, going to revisit.
I did not post anything for over 4 years, nothing shameful about forgetting about it :D

I will try to share a few thoughts about teapots and teaware when I find the time.

Re: Di Cao Qing clay

Hello everybody, I read a lot about DCQ clay and that it´s supposed to be very versatile, so that kinda all types of tea turn out pretty well in it. I would love to hear about your experiences with this type of clay and if there are any recommendations with which type of tea it´ll perform well. Tha...

Re: Recommendation: Nixing teapot?

I don't like Nixing. I didn't get good results with almost any teas aside from heicha and lower-end heavily roasted oolongs. For greens, I would recommend a thin porcelain gaiwan or teapot.

Nothing special but I like it. Seems to be a F1 green label pot. But that's just my inexperienced opinion. ;)
Spout looks a bit sloppy to be F1.
+1 was going to say the spout does not look F1

Re: Yixing

Any collectors/seniors can provide input if 太阳线 existed before factory period? ;) Curious about this question too. I've been looking at pots at auction and those that are old or supposedly old never have this 太阳线 (sunbeams?). Only factory period (maybe) and newer. it can happen before factory perio...

Re: Yixing

I have been learning more about hongni category, and I came across this pot. Initially, I thought it might be 90s F1 pot as it has a F1 potter's mark. I think it has been painted with a dark tone of material on inside and outside. I am not sure if this is done in 90s F1. What do you think? ;) ./dow...

Re: Yixing advice

Approximately how many times do you use a yixing teapot before it is well seasoned and you would use it with really high end tea? I blindly bought and have been using this teapot for yancha for about a month. I got a zhuni teapot because I had read that they won't absorb too much flavor from the te...
