Re: Yixing

The handle does not look very convincing to me, as do a few other details. I'd be inclined to think this is a replica. shows how much I know, but were there a lot of replicas of these actually made? I thought the design just sort of updated/switched and that these prunus pots sort of evolved in to ...

Takashi Ichikawa article

A very cool article on ceramic artist Takashi Ichikawa, conveniently also available in English. I've really admired the photos of his work, and from what I could gather his whole idea around settings and locations for tea. Reading this article and getting a better understanding for his approach and ...

Re: Pair of celadon cups

Ethan Kurland these Qing 'green bean' cups are a something quite different from say contemporary celadon ware - they don't and arent supposed to crack and craze in the same way. The smaller versions of these kinds of cups a supposedly very good for oolong, and again the middle and larger sizes of t...

Re: Pair of celadon cups

nice cups! I was digging around for these for myself for quite some time, and can confirm the size makes a big difference in price, the larger sizes up until you reach 'bowl' size are def harder to find, and also the place I have mainly been able to find them is from Hong Kong sources, at least with...

Re: What HeiCha are you drinking

Looking for others who may have samples the Malaysian 'Ma Bao' liu bao for some opinions... I'm revisiting this tea today after some time and quite some disappointment. After reading about it, and having actually quite good experience with other teas from Cha Zhi Ji I decided to jump in and get some...

Re: Best Taobao Agent

Still looking for a good proxy buyer for HK. Superbuy does cover HK, but they only have two shipping lines at the moment and the rates are awful. One was 60 euros, the other 80, to ship a single cup!

Re: What HeiCha are you drinking

But why are some of the examples in chunks like puerh, and some loose like maocha? Isn't all Liu Bao pressed? Some liu bao gets pressed in to forms like cakes or tuo, small local productions that are likely to never leave villages in Guangxi use unique small wood molds sometimes. The majority thoug...

Re: Yixing

the size and thickness of CZ pots is also usually not a good match - they tend to run small and be thin walled. not great for teas you tend to brew in larger pots and that want high heat retention.

Re: Yixing

In this case its def wheel thrown because all CZ pots (except some very low grade molded ones) are. Plenty of yixing have it too, but for vintage CZ pots for them to have nothing other than the Meng Chen mark is pretty common with the exception of a few studios/makers. The real giveaway is the slurr...

Re: Yixing

I just stumbled across the auction I am guessing you are looking at Dhammabum . It is not a yixing pot, it is CZ which yes is wheel thrown. The mark, shape, and clay are much more of a givaway than the base itself. Also an older pot, but taking a shot in the dark I would guess maybe 50s or 60s but c...

Re: The Porcelain Thread

good tip Baisao jwicked I guess just keep an eye out - I feel like when vendors like Chanting Pines or Chawang get a batch in and put it up they tend to go quite fast. I've gotten stuff from all over, different countries, vendors, auctions... it take a long while but you start to figure out what typ...

Re: Liu Bao sourcing

Thanks for the article aet ! Always nice to see more photos of LB, especially the smaller local productions fermenting in all their random configurations- baskets, open wood boxes, unique pressed shapes... I'm not surprised at all what the vendor told you about age and the difficulty of finding conf...

Re: "Neutral" Clays

Has anyone tried Jianshui clay with green oolongs? I kind of discounted it because of the thicker walls, but it's interesting to hear that it has low porosity. From what I gather Jianshui's (Nixing as well) main plus point is that it is cheap... Have not heard of many who really love it for much el...

Re: Storage Failure

hi Kelly , I saw your post about Hojo here and your loss of aroma. I still have some issues, but I think a lot of them boil down to being climate seasonal changes that maybe even sometimes aren't drying the tea out while in humidity controlled storage but also just that the dry season everything goe...
