If you can't spot that it says "7572" instead of "7542" on the cake, you might want to buy from reputable vendors instead of gambling on aliexpress ;)
Your expertise is appreciated, your condescension is not.

It's also very important, when evaluating dancong, to use boiling water and porcelain. If you use less than boiling water and clay, it's all too easy to be fooled.
Interesting. I have been brewing dancong with 85°C water all this time...

Re: Dayi 7542

I think I am going to order one. How would I know that it is counterfeit? Do they fake those fancy hologrammed wrapper security seals too?

Re: Puerhtea.eu

Thanks Maerskian . I'll up the RH a bit and let the Caicheng rest for a few more months. I've just noticed something the pricing games this vendor undertakes. On Sept 1, I ordered a cake of 2005 Raw CNNP Lao Shu Yuan Cha and paid €35.92. Today it is listed at € 44,95, though apparently sold old. A j...

Re: Puerhtea.eu

One of the most interesting ones was the purple caicheng mini-cake; not "amazing", not "spectactular" but interesting enough, not smoked. Maerskian , I bought one of these cakes from this vendor a few months ago, and I have been keeping it in a simple pumidor at around RH65. This morning I brewed u...

Re: Dayi 7542

There are a number of Aliexpress vendors currently selling the 2010 edition for €13 or €14 a cake. This seems suspiciously cheap for brand-name factory cake of such an age. Would that have been a lesser year?

Interesting topic, thanks for starting it. Just wondering: are you studying Chinese Traditional Medicine (TCM)?

Re: What HeiCha are you drinking

Victoria , thanks for the links! Lot of interesting information in those threads. Would this really be a green tea? The leaf is quite dark, which is why I thought it might qualify (loosely) as hei cha. Here is an image from the vendor's website: https://goodtea.eu/20076-large_default/yamabuki-nades...

When I go hiking, I'll fill a 1Liter thermos with 2 spoon fulls of tea (6-8 grams, maybe) and boiling water
I do something similar: thermos shu. 5g of loose-leaf "daily drinker" in my half-liter thermos. With a quick rinse. Delicious!

Re: What HeiCha are you drinking

Does this qualify as a hei cha ? Yamabuki-Nadeshiko 山吹撫子 is the only fermented Japanese tea. It is named after two flowers: the Kerria japonica and the Dianthus superbus. It evokes images of floral fragrance and feminine beauty. The process of fermentation used here is reminiscent of the fermentation...

Re: Random pics of piled tea

Great getting a peek at your magnificent stash! You mentioned your oolongs. If you don't mind my asking, what was your strategy for buying oolong for long-term storage? Are these all rolled oolongs? Are they vacuum-packed, like many Taiwanese are sold? Are there oolongs that are known to specificall...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

The British webshop Curious Tea has four aged oolongs among its new arrivals, one cake and three loose leaf. Any thoughts from aged oolong aficionados here as to whether these look promising? I have never bought aged oolong before.

Re: New EU VAT regulations

I found the following post from a Slovakian user in an FB forum dedicated to Yunnan Sourcing. This obviously reflects the current situation, not the forthcoming one (July 2021). Note in particular the invoicing issues: Package arrived today, yay! Maybe some of you residing in EU will find this usefu...

Hi @YSLondon, welcome! You are not alone! I have never understood the fascination with ultra-short steeps; I really enjoy the full character that a long steep can bring out, provided that bitterness and astringency remains in balance.
