Bitterness can (but doesn’t have to) be more prevalent though in the “wilder” tea leaves.
That's what I was thinking, and I am curious as to whether that is the case with this tea. I've had some interesting variations on 'wild' teas from Yunnan Sourcing and Norbu that have been exceptions.

Re: What Black Are You Drinking

Regarding The Steeping Room, I heartily recommend their Shan Cha. It’s the native tea bush of Taiwan, Camilia formosiensis, and has very potent cha qi. It’s delicious! This sounds very interesting. With black teas, I'm always wary because of bitterness, but if this one is processed similar to 'Ruby...

Re: Clogged Strainer

With the possible exception of pu, the need for a strainer comes from poor technique That's a remarkably dogmatic statement and I strongly disagree. Many teas have small bits that will go through various teapot filters, lips of shiboridashi, and filters. You cannot wait indefinitely for the smaller...

Re: 2020 from Wuyi Origin? especially dancong

I don't know if the Dan Cong I got as a sample was 2019 or 2020. I think it was Ba Xian, but am not sure because I forgot to name it in my post about it, and am not at work where the label is.

But: it was excellent.

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Sounds like a lovely session! I have just gotten my third shipment of mostly yancha from Jing Tea Shop, but sadly it arrived during a heat wave so yancha comparisons this weekend. But....the absolutely gorgeous Lala Shan Hong Shui I was so pleased with a few days ago was again a marvel just now, as ...

Earth sencha from Obubu: a robust but still pleasant sencha. Grassy, sweet, quickly increasing in astringency through several steeps.

The first infusion was delicate because I underinfused it. After that, it had more body.

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Translation: It's floral, fruity, with good depth of flavor, and roasted without the toasty/earthy notes.

It reminds me of Korean Balhyocha and Norbu's Red Alishan, but without quite as much of the earthy underpinnings, or the spice of the Red Alishan.

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Lala Shan Hong Shui from Floating Leaves Tea. There is a delicacy to this one that is very appealing, and I'm trying to figure out how to describe the elements of it that I really like: a little floral, fruity, and the light roast is invisible but clearly making a difference. It's like walking throu...

Re: Do you eat any snacks with your tea?

More of the boys here in the pets topic and here in their flickr album.

They do often make it hard to enjoy tea snacks by barging in and trying to steal snacks, and make it hard to enjoy things set out on nice teabowls and plates.

I'm glad I'm not the only one out here making these mistakes. No one has perfect tea sessions every time....and I am more often prompted to share sessions that went really well, or sessions with happy mistakes that taught me something new, than to share those that went very very wrong.....fortunate...

Re: Do you eat any snacks with your tea?

No worries.

This morning will be enjoying Spring Sun sencha from Obubu with an apricot-cherry-walnut scone for breakfast. And I think the long overnight final infusion from the Shui Xian may help finish it off.
