Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Drinking from a lowly plastic sodastream bottle.....and amazed again by the magnificent Norbu Red Alishan oolong. What can't this tea do? A gongfu sesson of concentrated bliss ranging among sweet to earthy to fruity to spicy; a thermos of hot tea delicious morning to night and keeping me going for a...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

Mori-machi Pu-erh from Den’s Tea. Den’s is a US-based company featuring mostly sencha, gyokuro and matcha from Japan. This is an interesting tea. It says on the pouch that it is produced in Shizuoka with a new Sake fermentation method from a blend of 1st and 2nd harvest Yakubita cultivar. Their tas...

Re: Determining the right size kyusu pot

The only trouble I have with using less leaf and water volume in a larger pot is that I forget to stop pouring until the pot is full.

And I do adjust the temp in the kettle a bit for whether or not the pot is preheated or how big the pot is vs volume I am actually infusing.

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

More Ippodo Tokusen gyokuro this morning.....contemplating Victoria's comments in the tasting topic ....and this morning enjoying the depth of the rich vegetal flavors on my second steep. Floral notes are not yet opening up, but the deep rich flavor is not overwhelming in the umami. Feels like I nai...

Re: Japanese Teaware Vendor Recommendations

Quite a bonanza of recommndations!

It's good that I am fortified aganst their siren call by a recent purchase from AN.....so I can more safely browse and bookmark for pleasant daydreaming, and purchase less on impulse than by waiting for something to speak to me over time.

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

I just bookmarked that thread for study. I did a quick look at the tea stores today, and yancha and dark roast TGY are quite low, and the Red Alishan and wonderful Korean Balhyocha do not quite scratch that itch. Today, however, I'm enjoying some more of sample 4 from Tillerman's Flavor Explorer set...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Luckily my tea cabinet is well stocked with oolong 🍃. That is a good thing! Yesterday I had a fine session with some Da Hong Pao from Wing Hop Fung, almost the last of the large 'bulk' bags I bought at their closing sale for their LA Chinatown location. It seemed like so much at the time! I know I ...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking

I made the mistake of throwing 7 grams of leaf into a 80ml gaiwan and the raw puerh already had some astringency. Wew lads, it kinda ruined my morning :( Did you try to rescue it by dilution? Even if you are not a matcha drinker, at least one large capacity tea bowl/chawan can help salvage sessions...

Re: Is tea a spiritual activity for you?

This one doesn't have a yes/no answer, so I can't answer the poll. Sometimes I'm just thirsty, but want something more interesting than water. Sometimes I need a caffeine lift. Sometimes, I want to enjoy and appreciate flavor, nuance, and feel part of the process from plant roots and the life of the...

Re: Become A Flavor Explorer!

After a matcha-wake up, I am enjoying Roasted Dong Ding Chen Kuan-Lin, tea #6, and it is now improved just as #4 was last night. The charcoal notes were much more muted, so instead of toast-with-hint-of-tea, it is tea-with-toast. Lovely! And it's so interesting that the sort of treatment (airing out...

Re: Become A Flavor Explorer!

After a week loosely closed but not sealed, I just tried #4 Sweet Scent, and the roast has receded to meld pleasingly with the floral and warm summer meadow notes, which are still prominent and not lost in the airing. Will seal up the remainder for one more session later in the week. I'm very excite...

Re: Introduce Yourself

Hi! I like to collect teaware! I also like to drink tea. But really, I like the teaware more. So many pretty colors and glaze effects! wow. Currently I am drinking Lupicia sakuranbo flavored tea. I live in San Diego. Nice to meet you! I've always enjoyed ceramic wares, but getting more serious abou...
