Re: What Green Are You Drinking

I did find one extensive tea and herb store in the French Quarter and perhaps another a little smaller. You gravitate toward visiting a local tea because you have experienced professionally run stores that are of impeccable integrity including Harney & Sons in SoHo. Actually, my gateway tea into th...

Re: Akira Satake

is that the one which costs 225$ ? Hi aet I think at the time I got this yunomi it was +-150$. His work is for sure going to go up though, in my opinion it is still undervalued. how do you determine that his cup can fit in your hand? I mean, if you buy it online, is there any technique what to look...

Re: Akira Satake

For those who don’t yet appreciate this work I’d suggest having an open mind and giving it time. Sometimes what is new and different to one’s own aesthetic ‘comfort zone’ can be unsettling. Possibly to embrace Japanese aesthetic philosophies, one has to have moved beyond concepts of classical Greek ...

Re: Akira Satake

Understood that it is an artistic choice, but in my favorite pieces, the piece manages to feel smoother or more comfortable in the hand than you might assume from the appearance Next time you visit debunix remember to hold my Akira yunomi. It is perfect to hold, in every way. I see iGo ’s bottom of...

Re: Become A Flavor Explorer!

Sipping on #5 haha I know this one well since I have it almost daily, a medium roasted DongDing. Rich liquor, nice viscosity, sweet and warming sensation with every sip. I did notice #6 is a lower roasted DongDing, haven’t had that green a DD in a while. The dry leaf aroma was nice, with the liquor ...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

Harney and Sons Got them. They are a reputable company? Yes, Harney & Sons carry good quality loose leaf teas like gunpowder and jasmine. I have been to their shop in Soho, NYC and enjoyed tasting a few teas there as well as at various tea festivals. They’ve been around for 40 years now and carry a...

Ah, you are right, Fugetsu studied under Yamada Jozan III. I’ll edit my post above so as not to confuse future research. And Gafu is another excellent option as well @AozoraE. Thanks.

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

I admire your persistence and am grateful for the detail in your description. But most of all I am relieved to not be the only one struggling to unlock all that is in O-cha's Kabusecha. My most fruitful explorations were in the direction of lower temperature, less water, and shorter steeps. Unfortu...

Re: Cleaning: Awakening & Resetting Unglazed Ceramics / Yixing

Victoria Why would you only use Sodium Percarbonate if the teapot is very dirty? I find scrubbing with baking soda and especially the use of diluted vinegar way more risky. Well, I’m not a chemist, but baking soda is less invasive (doesn’t penetrate the surface) and is 1/4 the cost of sodium percar...

Re: Become A Flavor Explorer!

After a busy day with little tea and the look of rain approaching, I decided to start mid-way with #4, then down to #3. Yumm, both are excellent, rounding out the day with aromatic and warming lingering sensations. Going with a blind tasting my notes are; #4 is super tasty, thick smooth, like LiShan...

Re: Cleaning: Awakening & Resetting Unglazed Ceramics / Yixing

A word of caution, when slow simmering in a big stockpot or cookware, be sure to use a trivot and cloth to protect the teapot from rattling (or it might crack). Mark-S both your pots look pretty clean outside, if the inside is really really bad then I’d just; put a few tablespoons of sodium percarbo...
