Re: Western facing F1 vendors list

You see some collectors spend a lot of money on antiques, but usually they don't drink tea. interesting. i've never heard of these teaware collectors that don't drink tea. i think they're missing out! These are the traditional antique-collectors; they have their own infrastructure a bit like art-co...

Re: Akira Satake

I understand your point of view. And I appreciate the discussion rather than debate, as likes are so very subjective. I do ascribe to the cliché, knowledge is power, so whether or not a cup like that is admired, I still agree that having the deeper knowledge of Japanese aesthetic, in this case, does...

Re: Akira Satake

If you have not yet held a piece like this, and without a knowledge of art history and philosophy, it will be difficult to discern quality. I do agree with most of what you wrote, except the above. In my view, if I need to study the history and philosophy behind an object to understand it, it is no...

Re: Akira Satake

aet there is nothing wrong with an adverse reaction to this kind of expression, whatever the artist medium. and establishing what determines art from junk is a forever open discussion. i for one am very moved by this kind of teacup. i needn't wax lyrical because it is wholly subjective. but what i d...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

Victoria, Each time you write of s "soggy" tea session I can't help but laugh. Certainly not at you, just at the David and Goliath image that I conjure up in my mind. I asked a friend about the Miyakonojo tea bushes and received a report of 17C degree weather and two videos of nice green bushes as f...

Re: British taste in, and knowledge of, tea

I am curious if the rise in tea consumption had anything to do with the gin craze and the British government's efforts to limit drinking gin in the mid-18th c.

Re: British taste in, and knowledge of, tea

MmBuddha, Didn't Yorkshire Gold Tea come out with a particular tea blend for hard water, which was part of their fame? I'm not British, but I thought the cream and sugar added was similar to a French café au lait in the morning. Coffee, cream, sugar, and in a bowl large enough to dunk a croissant in...

I've been seeing his Felt Suit for years and the conflux of comprehension and lack of comprehension still astounds me. Like a mental process that's turned into a physical state.

Re: Coronavirus

The tragic story of Dr. Li Wenliang is a truth-telling tale of human behavior. The virus, like all living organisms, is behaving as viruses do. The human actions, just as predictable, just as morally reprehensible; humans behaving just as human beings do. And against this nature are many heros among...

Re: Looking for Yuzamashi info

If I get this right a Yuzamashi is what the Chinese would call a chahai...Further added benefit is that the crackled glass and its reflections shows quite clearly the true colour of the brew (only pure white porcelain would otherwise, but pure white porcelain is often a bit to sterile in look to my...

Re: Looking for Yuzamashi info

Bok,
The Yuzamashi is used to cool water before contact with the tea. The chahai is for pouring off after steeping. Are you referring to the Yuzamashi?

Pants404,
I am happy you opened up this topic. As soon as I can I would like to post some photographs and add a few words, as my yuzamashi is very dear to me. Hoping others are planning to share as well in the meantime.

Re: Sample tea from Verdant

Ethan,
Interesting wager. I'm curious the outcome.
Economists and philosophers deal with this every day. As well as legitimate scammers. I usually don't take a gamble but then again I do. It's part of seeing who is more clever.
