Re: Hagi ware and absorption of colour/odour
l will try to clarify. First, any cup used for coffee and not washed well will accumulate coffee oils and so will certainly impart flavor on any liquid less strong than coffee. My point about the hagiyaki coffee cups is that they don't appear to craze or have a surface glaze for flavors to accumulat...

Re: Hagi ware and absorption of colour/odour
This isn't an answer but an observation. Of all the different Hagiyaki I own and use, your question depends on several factors. For example I have a cup that is almost like rakuyaki, very soft and absorbent. I am sure there would be dark staining from darker tea. Another two identical cups I use for...

Re: Simplicity of Tea
if you are a big game hunter you won't be satisfied with chicken for dinner. simplicity is how something is approached, not inherent in the thing itself. what's hardest to explain is how an average tea can be as satisfying as a great tea. not as "good," according to our physical taste, but in simpli...

I can't follow at all those prices on the site. I see bowls priced $600,- i could buy elsewhere for less than 100,-. Seigan has a large workshop, with several kilns and staff. Looking through his studio you will find pieces priced from low to high, depending on the degree of quality he determines t...
Re: Hagi
Hiroshima Gallery (hiroshima_kyoto on eBay) has some beautiful pieces by Kunisuke Nakahara, at very nice prices. I didn't see any chawan but the yunomi are stunning.
I have five or six pieces of his, but I am very tempted.

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
I think it's Ippodo's Japanese packaging, the written directions, that has a sentence admonishing the purchaser from stirring the teapot after adding water. I was read that sentence in English, with that same admonishment. I won't betray tradition.

Re: Akira Satake
Got my Akira Satake guinomi today. Am in love with it; the textures and tones, movement, perfect size, and light weight too. Yeah. The mustard yellow spotting looks like moss growing on a rock. iPhone shots for now to share. https://imgur.com/a/yaOWnvs What I find intriguing, under the impression t...

Re: A bunch of hand made Bi Luo Chun I wont drink
SweetestDew Thank you for the nice tin of tea and the gift of Mao Feng. It arrived! I'm waiting for the weekend to have a semblance of calm to taste one or both. I am curious, I have seen a little bit of "fuzz" on the Big Luo Chun I've bought, but haven't seen as many defined "fuzz balls" as I see i...

To quote a Taj Mahal lyric;
"If I could I surely would..."
I've been admiring the photography in his website as well.
That perfect balance between art and magic. Too far in any one direction is to capture just baked clay.
Hoping to see the purchases each of you have selected.

Re: Your day in matcha
No, not additives, just what exactly is the difference between expensive and inexpensive matcha to affect foam? I don't seem to have an issue, however my matcha selection is not all that expensive so I can't compare with finer grades

Re: Your day in matcha
It's nice to receive a delivery so quickly, in good or difficult times.
I'm wondering why you find inexpensive matcha doesn't foam well; meaning you have success with expensive matcha? Is it technique or chemical?
