Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

@Victoria is a tgy from a farmer called master chen, a taiwanese man who came in China at the start of the nineties to grow his tea... It’s kind of funny, in all my years drinking Taiwanese I have never bought from someone not surnamed Chen :) Not surprising! Over the years I have come to the concl...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Oh, the luxury of having access to great oolong in the west, thanks to skillful curation by discerning vendors and access to a few tea farmers and producers. Today, sensory indulgence with Tillerman ’s Laoshi Roasted DongDing, followed by HY Chen’s LiShan Primitive Wild Forest. Wow, my taste buds ar...

Re: Thanks folks!

I recently order some from Tillerman by mistake, I was distracted and thought I was ordering Bai Hao Victoria If you'd like to exchange for the Bai Hao, please let me know. Haha not necessary, but thank you :) I can share with a few Bao Zongh lovers here in LA. With my last order I forgot to try yo...

Re: Water Water Everywhere... What’s Your Water?

This book, available in April, sounds like it will be very interesting to see. The photographer, Brad Temkin, is based in Chicago and has gone around the USA documenting water treatment facilities; https://www.wired.com/story/wastewater-trreatment-gallery/ https://radiusbooks.org/books/brad-temkin-t...

Re: Thanks folks!

......First attempt at gongfu cha style with Wenshan Bao Zhong spring tea was a fantastic experience! I could've used a bit more tea imo but got maybe 6-7 steeps after a wash, tasted like liquid flowers. :D Glad to hear it! “Liquid flowers” is an apt description of baozhong. It was one of the first...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

Autumnal tgy 2018... the fruity note was a surprise! Beautiful roasted Tieguanyin luchayi , tasting notes sound so good too. Any info on vendor, farmer? Tonight I'm really enjoying unfurled roasted DongDing in my gnarly black very lightweight 90ml Sou Yamada kyusu. Stuffed the pot with 8gr. Using m...

Re: Introduce Yourself

Lol, 40 years ago, TenRen was pretty good for what was available and what I knew about. Yes, I remember going into TenRen’s various Manhattan locations in the 80s. Those were exotic teas back then for the US market, before international trade opened up making foreign goods much more accessible here...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

Today I added a little organic Matcha from Mite Co. to a mystery Fukamushi to liven up a medium grade experience. Much better. Yamada Jozan III direct wall filter kyusu though isn’t the best to use with Fukamushi, so I switched to my Gyokuryu (Mr. Umehara Jiro) kyusu. The sesame filter in this kyusu...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking

Came across a sample of Hojo’s blended Uji Sencha Fukamushi. Akira has some very interesting and idiosyncratic ideas. With this blend of three different sencha he was orchestrating a ‘three dimensional sensation’ of mouth feel, body and aftertaste. He goes on to say, ‘the body is the horizontal sens...

Re: Japanese Greens - Can’t Get Away

What you say makes a lot of sense to me Baisao . When I was down with the flu the only tea I wanted was gyokuro or sencha, they both felt like healthy nourishing broths to my body. Now, a week or so later, I’ve reintruduced roasted oolong but am having a hard time properly tasting them. At first I t...

Re: What Black Are You Drinking

Interesting article I found on aged/vintage Darjeeling FF teas... https://hojotea.com/en/posts-37/ Yes, very interesting, it sounds so delishious. His aging process is mainly to just use heat (30 degree Celsius) to age the tea leaves, and it only took 4 years. Re aging 1st flush Darjeeling; ‘We pac...

Re: What Black Are You Drinking

I would suspect it to age in a similar way to stronger oxidised Baozhong or Oriental beauty. Wouldn’t test drink before a good ten years though, my experience with those two showed me that they need longer to taste nice aged. Other Oolongs can be drinkable after as early as five years. My question ...

Another round of that lovely old-school processed Dongding in 60s Biandeng, followed by Milanxiang Dancong in Chaozhou clay - lovely, evening can not really get better, tea-wise...
That sounds like a really nice back to back pairing Bok. How are you sourcing your DanCong, since you are in Taiwan?

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking

It is a very humbling situation when you conclude, after giving it several chances, that one of the teas you had selected for sale (and an expensive one at that) is just meh. Not defective in any way but just rather boring, dull, uninteresting. So it is with my Winter 2018 Tian Chi (and this winter...
