Re: Yamada family seal chops and signatures
Bok Looking at my II-IV Jozan kyusu, they all use shudei clay of varying textures and density. The earlier ones feel like they use tighter denser clays and or processing/finishing. Early Emu pear skin is my favorite clay. Don’t have enough experience with ‘real’ zhuni to comment as to it’s similari...

Re: Yamada family seal chops and signatures
Those links are okay. My recommendation, as with all collecting, is start with a reputable source, start slow, observe carefully, piece by piece build your own database of information. Up for auction, every once in a while, magazines, and limited edition books come up. It helps to have a good transl...

Oh, the antithesis of wabi-sabi modesty and impermanence. Louis XIV would have loved it.

iGo I’m also holding onto several aged oolong and Pu’erh from Origin. Really miss Tony’s high quality selections. This morning sipping on medium roasted DongDing 9gr:150ml in Hokujo kaolin chips nanban kyusu. I enjoy how teas transform depending on ambient humidity levels, water used, and changes i...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
1967 Pinglin Baozhong from the dearly departed Project Origin Tea. 3gm/27ml Yixing. Aged taste but not plum/raisin flavor I’m used to with aged Taiwanese oolongs. Is that from an aged BaoZhong pre- OTTI that Chip did in 2006 with Origin Tea? I’m sorry I missed that one. With BaoZhong being unfurled...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
Since Stéphane from TeaMastersBlog has joined TeaForum I reached for his 2018 Spring Qingxin Ooolong, a kind gift from Shine Magical on one of his visits to LA. Wow this is very high quality oolong, somewhere between Alishan and FuShouShan. Preheated kyusu with dry leaves gives off a strong floral b...

Re: Drippy spouts?
Teapots by Jozan III, grandfather and grandmaster of Yamada Sou, whom many people here so much love. Yes, those two Jozan III have been a favorite of mine for some time now. I realize they are pretty anatomical, and also in every way so well proportioned as kyusu. My Emu has similar propo...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
Had some long jing from the lazy cat yesterday. 3g in a 6oz mug grandpa style. It was delicious. From the package "First pick. Processed 23/03/2019. Wengjiashan, Xihu. Pre-Qingming." Edit: added some pictures of the leaves, not from the same session, from this morning doing some comparison to year ...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
Drinking Chiran sencha from O Cha, I just got it in the mail, perfect timing because the last of my other sencha has been going fast! Anyway, the Chiran is fabulous. Steeped it in the kyusu Victoria was kind enough to send me. And just...wow. This is one of my faves now, I love it. Grassy, hint of ...

Re: Drippy spouts?
Haha, throw away a kyusu because it’s been used. I’m sure he could offer it for a discounted price. I got an antique clay kettle that has an invisible crack at the base so it leaks, trouble is I simmered it before checking it out, so no way to know if shipping or I caused the crack. Now, whenever I ...

Re: Drippy spouts?
"I did reach out to Toru about it, and he basically told me that he can't guarantee that every pot that receive doesn't drip and that he really isn't in a position to ask a potter to "switch out" a pot that drips with a pot that doesn't . He also sent me two videos of pots by Jinpachi and- just lik...

Re: Drippy spouts?
Yes, I also feel as rdl that you could reach out to Toru at Artistic Nippon. Clearly this 70 year old craftsman is very experienced making kyusu and respects tea. I do also though agree with Bok regarding spout shape with kyusu; proportionally they look and function better when the base of the spout...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
what looked like an oil slick on the surface of the liquor. It was not very impressed by it either. Any idea what causes foam and an oil slick? could it be mineral residue from brewing with hard water? Here is an brief account of tea scum: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2005/nov/04/foodan...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
Ethan Kurland your Oriental Beauty sounds very interesting. I just got 8oz of OB Grand from Te Company in NYC, when it’s good it’s so good. You must enjoy very light brews since you are using so few leaves, for 60ml I’d probably be using 3.5gr, but then I like a rich brew. I’m letting my order rest...
