Re: Hongni for wuyi yancha teas
Well it might be helpful if you explain what do you mean by “harshness” comparing to the a gaiwan? Brewing yancha in a pot requires extra care, especially if the pour is not too great. What are your params? when i say harshness, i mean this harsh feeling at the back of my throat. The pot has a sing...

Re: Hongni for wuyi yancha teas
Hongni will not add harshness to any tea. If there is harshness it has been in the tea before. Hongni won’t hide any, if anything it accentuates those qualities. Almost as plain and neutral as porcelain. But then, it depends, so many kinds of hongni not all behave the same... If the tea is harsh, a...

Re: Hongni for wuyi yancha teas
f1 pot? i think it works quite well but is not my absolute favorite. i slightly prefer older hongni (~60s), slightly less muting, a little closer to porcelain. another difference i noticed is that 80s-90s (white sticker) f1 hongni gives a mineral taste. i think it's nice, but you may or may not lik...

Re: Hongni for wuyi yancha teas
i want to use my teapots only for teas i like. so far i have: zini: ripe pu erh chaozou hong ni (slightly porous, but not too much): bai mu dan & maybe all white teas hongni: 1) da hong pao and wuyi oolongs or 2) heavily roasted taiwanese oolongs like dong ding and ruby gaaba or 3) black/red teas or...

Re: Hongni for wuyi yancha teas
it is a higher profile pot, wider at the bottom than the top, which seems to be better for oolongs. I also like drinking heavily roasted taiwanese oolongs like dong ding and ruby gaba, but being chinese clay im not sure if i should use it for the taiwanese oolongs. I like da hong pao a lot and so fa...

Hongni for wuyi yancha teas
Was wondering if a Hongni teapot from late 80's early 90's is a good match for da hong pao and wuyi teas. i understand that in the beginning the teapot is still breaking in and will keep absorbing the flavours of the tea, so it would be pointless to compare the taste to a gaiwan at this point. it wo...

Re: Is Yixing more porous than CZ??
Yes. That is true. The question in hand is how often will you want to feed your pot with high quality tea? But once your pot is adequately fed... no other pots will be able to match it. That’s one of the reasons why we prefer ZhuNi or Porcelain for high quality tea. Pockets not deep enough to feed ...

Re: Is Yixing more porous than CZ??
they say a pot that is porous shaves off some of the top notes of finer, higher teas.
as time goes by and you keep using the teapot and seasoning it, will the teapot stop shaving the top notes off of the tea?

Re: Is Yixing more porous than CZ??
what is the typical surface texture for zini? smooth? I posted a few examples of zini earlier in this thread that can be helpful. Texture can vary but I have not seen many with a texture like yours. It is likely because it is a modern type of clay that is not usually found in older pots. The link t...

Re: Is Yixing more porous than CZ??
I would need to handle the pot to be sure what clay it is - lighting makes it hard to judge on pictures. The texture is very different from the Qing zini in the link, the Qing zini is smoother. This does not necessarily mean that your pot is not zini, but the two are totally different clays. Not al...

or actually maybe it was light brown when i got it, and now its darker brown. i got some pics on instagram of when i first got it, ill try and put them up if i can Definitely possible. A picture in shaded daylight is best to evaluate clay type - on a somewhat cloudy day or on a bright day behind fi...

Re: Is Yixing more porous than CZ??
@trusar that forum is pretty much abandoned, most of the active members there created this forum here. If it keeps getting clogged you might need to work on how you brew. How you pour, how the leafs are arranged in the pot. For example, with open leafs the first pour will need to be slow in order n...
