Re: Clay pot and smell
smell differently oh, missed this, thought you were referring to the intensity of the aroma, can't really help you without smelling myself, haven't noticed anything smelling off/different in my pot although I admit I only did an A-B test once when I first got it and was not too focused on the aroma...

Re: Clay pot and smell
Part of it might be the shape, like how a tall thin cup locks the aromas longer than a wide mouth one, might also be that the fact the leaf has less room to expand makes the extraction somewhat slower, I've noticed this when leafing hard in my small 60ml clay pot, after quite a large amount of steep...

Re: What Black Are You Drinking
Recently bought a bit of Japanese black tea at a local store, benifuki strain, been drinking it constantly, seems to make me consistently teadrunk which I welcome  It tastes like a very smooth Assam with a lot of fruit notes without the sharpness some Indian teas seem to get, was a bit on the f...

Re: The Porcelain Thread
Yeah, the wanyu mark at the bottom supposedly means that it could have been made anywhere from the 1920s to 1970s. I would hedge more on the early half of that because it's hand painted and the flower pattern inside the bowl. Standard PRC era bowls are always printed rather than handpainted. The bo...

Re: The Porcelain Thread
gatmcm's hand painted rice pattern bowl is likely first half of the 20th century, while Brent's gaiwan is no earlier than the mid 60s. I think it's probably anywhere from the 60s to 70s. I don't think they were outlining with red after that, but I'm not entirely sure. If I remember right rice grain...

Re: The Porcelain Thread
Came across this gaiwan. Similar style to my teapot. Can anyone guess decade? Nice, style looks very similar to the one of the other cup I got though the craftmanship on the gaiwan looks better, might mean its more modern, or just better quality, I'll leave it to the experts :) : 20180323_154223.jp...

Re: The Porcelain Thread
Got a couple cups recently for cheap at an antique shop, this one is from macau, I'm guessing 70s or 80s, you can find a lot of oldish canton stuff in Portugal, this kind of stuff was common as wedding gifts and such back then so a lot of it ends up at antique shops, often for cheap. 20180323_154042...

Re: gaiwan or teapot?
On the topic of boiling on the handful of times I tried it I've noticed a grainy starchy kind of taste/texture that havent come out otherwise, its pleasant but I wonder why it has only come out when brewing like this, maybe the harsher brewing breaks down the plant cells more extracting components y...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
Been drinking YS's first flush mao feng, just grandpaing it in a big glass, boiling water, it lasts quite a few refills, bitterness is definitely there but I don't mind it drinking this way, it brings balance to the brew.

Re: Does the bottom piece of a gaiwan have a purpose?
In contrast, the so-called 60ml gaiwan sold by YS is far larger and closer to 80ml. I was under the contrary impression so I measured the ys 60ml one, it's a bit over 65ml filled to the very top, when filled reasonably its closer to 50. I measured in grams of water, my scale isnt the best so I can'...

Re: What Pu'er Are You Drinking
Having a session of the 2006 tian jian wild sheng from adventure in every cup, it has a mentholy freshness I've found before in wild sheng, the main flavour is overipe fruit, maybe plum. Sadly the storage wore out a bit since I first bought it, it used to taste a bit wetter and it suited it well, no...

Re: Introduce Yourself
Guess I will introduce myself since I haven't yet: How long have you been drinking tea? Since childhood but as a hobby I started 2-3 years ago. What kind of tea do you drink? Mostly puerh and yancha but I have a bit of everything from time to time. How do you prepare your tea? Gongfu or grandpa, onc...

Re: What to brew when having a cold
I'm going through the same myself, been drinking some shus that usually stay in the shelf, the thick broth they produce seems to bypass my clogged pipes, don't feel like wasting more subtle tea in this state

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
A different kind of simple: I'm looking for not too expensive everyday oolong, to brew at work (office or on the go). Most days this will mean 3-5 grams in a large brew basket and my handleless double walled mug (a killer combo in my work bag or even pocket), usually but not always two-three steeps...
