Re: Chaozhou/Shantou
theredbaron the high end prices refer to Qing dynasty era pots. I have seen a few and they can be exquisite! Asian market only, I don’t think many Westerners if any would pay that much. Are these more for the general antiques market? I have not heard any tea enthusiasts paying much attention to ant...

Re: Chaozhou/Shantou
This information is useful to me. If you like I can collect some hammer prices of CZ teapots (I think) in Dutch auctions. Best regards, Pieter I don’t think that Dutch prices will reflect the reality of the market for those pots. Highly likely they are either over priced or undervalued, both due to...

Re: Please some advice on Dancong
A quick note on "traditional rolled" oolong and TGY: most reputable vendors of TGY whom I have consulted (e.g. Seven Cups, Zhen Tea, etc.) have suggested that the ball rolled form for TKY really only dates to the 1990's when the Taiwanese began investing there; prior to that the standard was a twis...

Re: Please some advice on Dancong
Also I would like to mention that I really do think Chaozhou clay enhances those teas quite a bit! Except the greener versions. Tried it with modern and vintage CZ clay, both feel more balanced and rounded, yet without taking away anything I'd like to keep. The greener ones actually did well in Hok...

Re: Please some advice on Dancong
The vendor recommendations here are on point. I will say though that even within a given vendor, dancong can be hit or miss, even at similar price brackets: having tried a few of the teas at teahabitat I would gladly pay for some sold at 2.5$/gram, but others sold at $2.3/gram are a hard pass for m...

Re: Please some advice on Dancong
I've had some exquisite dan congs from Verdant Tea but I usually just buy samples because the top-shelf stuff ain't cheap. Interesting. I just ordered a few samples there, also from their Yancha (i won't hold my hopes high though...), and what i found very interesting the traditional rolled Wulong ...

Re: Please some advice on Dancong
I’ve been buying a lot of yancha and dan cong over the last three years and I’ve been pleased with things I’ve bought from Cindy (Wyui origin) and Imen. I’ve also bought over the years good oolongs, including dan cong from Hojo. I tend to go to puer if I’m tired of overtly floral teas, and over tim...

Re: For Shui Ping lovers with small pockets...
Little update The pot just arrived today, and i am having my first try with Yancha, a very nice Lao Cong Shui Xien. So far, it is very promising. No clay smell at the first wash whatsoever, and it not too muting, preserves the high notes well enough. I like what it does with Yancha. Especially for t...

Re: Please some advice on Dancong
I have spent a good amount of time trying to source quality DC. Nothing I have been able to get ever holds a candle to tea habitat. I am currently working my way through about a dozen different samples from hojo, but im afraid Imen has ruined me. Do be careful when looking for "budget" Dancong. Dop...

How would you compare their quality with Tea Habitat's?Ethan Kurland wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2019 8:09 pmCindy Chen sells good dancong, also not inexpensively. I haven't had any in about 2 years and don't remember what her website name is. She has been mentioned on the forum often enough though.

Re: Please some advice on Dancong
Inexpensive Dancong can be quite terrible and quite possibly polluted. Hearsay has it the Dancong area does not yet have as strict regulations as Wuyi does. This has put me off Dancong for quite some years, when i drunk cheap and not very good Dancong in Thailand. But since a year or two, i started...

Please some advice on Dancong
In the recent year or two i began to enjoy Dancong teas, and they do grow on me. I began with some not too expensive Dancongs from Yunnansourcing, and recently ordered more expensive ones from Tea Habitat, which, from what i gathered, seem to be the best Dancong's avaliable for the western oriented ...

Yes, proper pairing makes all the difference. Maybe I just haven't found the right pairing for my new Green Label QSN pot yet.

Re: For Shui Ping lovers with small pockets...
Apart from that it’s always been a rich mans game... Indeed. Since the revolution it became quite affordable (not for mainland Chinese however, for whom pots and good tea remained quite expensive). The last couple of decades i see the low prices of tea and teaware as a bit of a historical aberation...
