Re: Your day in tea

I'd feel far too vulnerable, leaving anything tea-related of value in an office environment. What if I came in one day and found that my well-loved teapot had been 'cleaned',... I do keep my stuff clean and organized, behind doors. There is also strength in numbers : if I had one teapot, maybe some...

Re: Your day in tea

I've been thinking the same thing, especially now that our second lockdown over here has ended, people are returning to offices, there are fewer excuses to work from home Just for the sake of sharing an atypical experience, let me say I am one of the probably few for whom the pandemic has, ultimate...

If you want a reference point for "good" smoked xiaozhong aka Souchong, grab the top end stuff from either Junde or Zhengshantang
Sorry for the silly Westerner question, but are there easily available sources for these teas?

I must tip my hat to @pedant, who has a knack for whipping out succinct, useful summaries of sometimes complex subjects, without them sounding like heavy-handed advice or judgement on individual preferences.

Re: Storage Failure

Other issue: the recharged packs sometimes develop salt crystals inside which don't dissolve anymore (it happens with the RH69 packs) -- these crystals could easily pierce the bag, but more importantly, i suspect that the crystallization might get to the point where the the RH is no longer correct ...

Re: Single tree!!?! Can it be true?

faj at least you can drink tea. What can you do with this?? You can brag about it. You can bask in the pleasure of knowing all your buddies know you really, demonstrably spent this much money to get something of little practical value. If you are done bragging, you can resell it too. It is like pur...

Re: Single tree!!?! Can it be true?

The recent trend around non-fungible tokens can give a perspective. The idea with them is being able to transform an (approximately) infinite flow of low-value blobs of bits into an (approximately) infinite series of individually scarce items with nonzero value. This is, to be sure, entirely disconn...

Also of interest, the concept of Veblen goods, which are goods for which demand increases when their price increases, because of their status signaling role.

Re: Your First Teapot... show off!

Yes, worth sharing. And ease-of-use is super important for work, where the rinsing & cleaning options may be quite limited. When I first started using teapots at work, I was worried about this. I built a habit of cleaning my teapots by putting a bit of water from the kettle, shaking and moving the ...

Re: Your day in tea

Is that an earlier Hokujo? I have noticed earlier batches have a slightly different, darker looking clay. Also the details of the spout look different to his later style. Will be interesting to see with what he comes up now that he is semi-retired from commercial teapot making... There have been qu...

Re: Where did you get your tea education?

Start with one very specific tea. Make as many servings of that one tea as you can so you become familiar with its every nuance. I have not dedicated to a single tea for a prolonged period, but as time passes I have been purchasing larger quantities of fewer teas. I did not start with the method yo...

then focus on one tea, brewing daily for at least a year before branching out to other teas.
I would be curious to know if you meant one type of tea (i.e. say, sencha), or really one specific tea.
