Re: What Green Are You Drinking
Even more odd is that I haven't had single sencha I don't enjoy ... probably ever. Otherwise the blind buying surely wouldn't work. By the way, what you say about sencha echoes my (short) experience with Liu Bao. I have liked all those I have tried. Some more than the others, but in a way that does...

Maybe there are some you enjoy more than the others, and you would like those to be back more often in the rotation? That is my line of thinking at least. I pay less p...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
Sencha is probably the category of tea that I have the simplest relationship with: Blind buy a bunch of different teas, usually from TdJ, only keep one bag open at a time. Once the bag is empty I decide whether or not it’s something I want to get more of, but by this time it’s usually sold out anyw...

Re: Shincha 2021. What's in your cart?
Shincha is running a few weeks ahead of schedule due to a mild Winter ... that is the good news. The bad news is that due to the mild Winter, the insider rumor is that pop cultivars like SM & YM are not stellar according to early reports. Last year was the first year I ordered schincha. My order en...

Re: Red Clay from the Gold Mines of Sado Island.
That's a pity. What's the size and shape of yours? tozo.jpg It is 120ml. The flange that supports the lid is surprisingly wide, and the actual opening is much smaller than one would expect. I have come to understand that in the case of Tozo's teapots, its not as bad a thing as it sounds : if the te...

Re: How I got started with Dan Cong
I'd start with her 2019 tasting set of multiple DCs. Aside from the number of different teas, is there a difference between the 2020 sampler set, and the 2019? It seems to me the 2020 set comes out at a lower average price per gram, although the individual teas from the 2019 set seem less expensive...

Re: Red Clay from the Gold Mines of Sado Island.
I see comments here and other places about the pour being bad though. Is it just that they tend to pour slow, or are the pots drippy and difficult? I have one kyusu by Tozo, and a few hohins. The kyusu is by far my most challenging pot to use. The lid is very drippy (rough and not ground) so that t...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
Foucault said that Derrida practiced the method of obscurantisme terroriste (terrorism of obscurantism). We were speaking French. And I said, "What the hell do you mean by that?" And he said, "He writes so obscurely you can’t tell what he’s saying, that’s the obscurantism part, and then when you cr...

Re: What Green Are You Drinking
Challenging my assumptions this morning by brewing gyokuro with Hojo's "modern method": 30-40 second first steep followed by 3 flash steeps and then +10s seconds with subsequent steeps until tea gets boring. Water temp is 70-80C. Final steep is boiling water. Ratio is a measly 2g/100 mL I have had ...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
Haha, I do have three Hokujo kyusu that I only use with roasted oolong, except they are kind of large (250,250,200ml) for a solo side-by-side, and filling them 1/3 will not stay hot enough. Maybe three 100ml hongni yixing that I have could work.... but do I have the motivation to go another round :...

It is hard to find out what the best tea is if not making each tea the best it can be. Maybe you need three similar Hokujo pots and a rematch...
