Re: Is tetsubin overrated? Looking for a small portable induction plate.

Thanks Youzi. I am in Central Europe, so yes, 220V it is  . Thank you for your recommendation. If I understand induction correctly, unused space is not a problem because the magnetic field will only interact with the pot that is actually there. The thing is though, I already have a classic...

Re: Is tetsubin overrated? Looking for a small portable induction plate.

If you are in the 220V world, then I can recommend the Xiaomi induction Stove. It's 25cm in diameter and a circle basically, so no edges or unused surface area.

Re: How much heat can a tetsubin take?

The heat problems are due to the urushi plug, which could melt or have a crack around it. Only a concern with more expensive tetsubins.

Cheaper mass made ones like Oigen and Iwachu, the not hand made ones, are fine to go with 100% power.

Re: Chaozhou/Shantou

For the sake of comparison, here's a modern pot by Chen Zhijian i've aquired through Zoey. Lovely clay and meticulous craftsmanship. As you can see even through the bad color balance the clay here is more red than orange (second pic shows it next to white label hongni). There are probably different...

Re: Tetsubin

Glad to hear you like it. Youzi has the same one, I think. I was surprised at how full I could fill mine. Just measured today, I fill it to around 800 ml with no issues (with the lid only halfway on when boiling the water). That's much more than I had expected for a 1 litre tetsubin. Still keep the...

Re: Yixing classic shapes – past and present

Youzi hard to say as the video doesn’t show any pictures. The ones I posted above are certainly not the oldest or most traditional in terms of Yixing as a whole. Lixing and Siting shapes and some others were certainly more common in the early periods. Yeah, my question was more towards this thread ...

Re: Yixing classic shapes – past and present

What does traditional mean in this context? Oldest? Most common during the history of Zisha? Most common shapes during F1?

Re: Yixing

Genuine as in what? They are genuine teapots that is for sure. The right one looks like an attempt of replicating an antique, but it’s modern. The one on the left I can’t see enough to guesstimate. But unless you paid a couple of hundreds it doesn’t really matter what they are… Ah, I did, actually....

Re: Storage Failure

Other issue: the recharged packs sometimes develop salt crystals inside which don't dissolve anymore (it happens with the RH69 packs) -- these crystals could easily pierce the bag, but more importantly, i suspect that the crystallization might get to the point where the the RH is no longer correct ...

Don't recharge your Bovedas. The salts seem to get out of the package and into your tea.
I recharged them many times. Never happend with me.

If you do high humidity storage, don't let the temperature fluctuate.

Re: Yixing

One important question is also: why would they make impure Zhuni if they could get much more money for refined Zhuni? Doesn’t really add up. Cuz it's actually not zhuni, but Tuanni(zhuni). Basically Tuanni from the intersection of the Lüni / Zhuni stratas. Usually artificially mixed stuff looks mor...

Re: Yinchen Studio teapot input

I have foind a teapot I like from Yinchen Studio. I have two pots from them already, which I am quite happy with, but this pot is made of a zhuni that I am unfamiliar with. The site makes claims that I want to look into. It is an 80ml Huanglong zhuni with coarsely sifted clay, maybe #26-#30 screen,...

@Victoria

Any idea or opinion on using EDTA to clean teapots?

In this paper where they studied tea stain formation they used that to clean the stains, among others, and it worked the best.

Was interested in the Laocong Tieluohan Bok mentioned but felt I'd already gone overboard on costs.
I'd swap out something for the laocong TLH, if you can't afford to add it. That's a one of a kind type of tea.
