Re: Your day in tea
I recently had good Dayuling and Baozhong from a vendor on this site. If you're looking for more recommendations from Wang, the Fushoushan, Da Yu Ling, and Alishan Osmanthus are all very good. I've liked most of their oolongs, but these, along with the SLX Wild Garden, are the best that I've tried....

Re: Taiwan recommendations?
There is Wuyi cultivar made Oolong in Taiwan, but it is different to Wuyi Yancha. So far the Wuyi cultivar teas I got from Taiwan were all ball rolled and lightly roasted, are there some that process it in a more Wuyi manner, strips and heavier roasts? Would be interesting to compare based on close...

Re: Your day in tea
Baiyun, did that Wild Garden SLX come from Wang? I had that oolong a couple years ago and liked it. It had a nice, peachy flavour and no bitterness. Yes that is the one. Can definitely be brewed out without falling into bad notes so it suits a bit of playing around. Juicy leaves sl.jpg That said I ...

Re: Your day in tea
Starting the day with a wild garden shanlinxi.
Looking forward to some yancha later today.
After a few days of rather impactful Jingmai and Lao Man E sheng I am longing for some aromatics.

Re: Celadon Appreciation
I took the opportunity to get this one (...) My honest impression is that 230$ original price is way too high for something like this. I jumped off buying that one due to shipping costs to my part of the world costing as much as the cup, and agree on the original price for this being a joke. At the...

Re: Long-term storage for herbals?
i assume that you want 0% humidity, so no boveda. idk 32% is the lowest pack I think, so unless the air at home is lower than that, it would have an effect. I am not sure about going so low though. There is a good chance that a bit of moisture in the material would be better than none. The ideal RH...

Re: Long-term storage for herbals?
I like airtight stainless steel containers with the appropriate percentage boveda pack to control humidity. Some storage containers have slots for these packs in the lid. You'd just have to research what humidity level is most suitable.

Re: Chen YuanHao
Thank you for the insight aet Reminded me of this statement going along with some modern pots for $2.3k+ "At his request, we have a minimum price we can sell these at, though his pots generally sell for much more in the Chinese market. Since we realise these aren't inexpensive, as an introductory of...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
I started this morning with my second session of the lazy cat Metamorphosis, which is a 2020 Laocong (old bush) Shuixian from Zhengyan. It stood out from the tea drawer because I have a bit of a sore throat and this tea is indeed very smooth and comforting, so I drank it as lukewarm medicine, spaced...

Re: Warming up teapots
but I suspect I'd be cautious and preheat them anyway. As you say, the preheated pot can give lovely aromas. Oh yes I preheat them all, but I don't necessarily two-stage preheat the modern pots to ease them up to temperature. I just have some confidence in these newer pots because nothing has happe...

Re: Warming up teapots
I'm pretty careful with my yixing pots. With my 1990s Zhuni-Hongni pot and my older Zhuni, I pour half-boiled water over the outside of the pot and then fill it with the same water. I do the same thing again with freshly boiled water. I hope this will prevent hairline cracks on these pots. My cheap...

Andrew S I would not have found or tried them without the kind pointers here. I think I know what you mean with quality versus style. It is great to find a curator that shares your general preferences. For me, in the Taiwanese oolong realm, that was Floating Leaves with their special reserve offeri...

Re: What Oolong Are You Drinking
Easing myself into the much anticipated lazy cat shipment with the spring 2022 Echoes Rougui from Tongmuguan. I am no authority on yancha but this was a peak rougui experience for me to date. I tend to wake up the dry leaves in the heated pot for a little bit and the aroma was immediately present, w...
