Re: Yixing
Bok What did you do with your pot? It may work well as a water dropper for ink calligraphy writing haha. steanze The clay is certainly a mystery. The clay is too sandy comparing to all of my 80s pots. The color is too dark in comparison to dark zini and not black enough for heini from the late 80s ...

What do you all think about this pot? Black Pillar (黑柱) from the early 80s or replica? It looks a bit too sandy, the color is super dark brown

Machine making zisha pot https://youtu.be/Yy90LLzHaqo Am told that many teapots are now made in this way, and then processed in-house to remove machine traces and add manual traces Good video! Machine made pots typically have thicker walls. Earlier machine pots could only make round inner wall, so ...

Re: Help! Yixing Identification Needed
Would people really go to such lengths to fake a teapot? ./download/file.php?id=13845 The answer is yes! People do go great lengths to fake teapots, porcelains, and in general antiques. Hearing the fame of the artisan and looking at the inner tool marks and outer carvings, I would assume it's a cop...

Re: Meaningless tea subscriptions ?
I hope this is not too far off topic. I am not a big fan of subscriptions both for teas and wines. I have a tendency of accumulating too much small portion of teas that I may not open and eventually building up a pile at the corner of my tea cabinet. aet I did enjoy reading your articles about tea, ...

Re: modern Tokoname and mass production
wave_code have you found a Tokoname pot that captured your interest yet? I picked up this pot recently. While I believe it's Japanese made I am not 100% sure it's Tokoname. Since it's exported without artist name, it has a made in Japan stamp, it might be mass production as well haha. The shape rem...

Re: The Essence of Tea
. I don't recall any liu bao notes, though... Andrew You're probably immune, hahaha. It's the same smell as most of the teas from yee on tea - maybe just wet stored smell? My wife said it smelled like an algae infested frog puddle Yee on tea is considered to be on the wet side of storage, just my o...

wave_code Do you happened to know if the leaf mark chop was commonly use in late qing period? I have been looking at information on the leaf mark and couldn’t find much information aside from its commonly use on porcelains. Late Qing > ROC > vintage. Seen during all of these... Re: Yixing
Yeah I don't know how much faith I have in that claim either, but no big deal either way since what matters to me is how it brews in the end. I do wonder if the darker color is that blend/batch of ore or from the firing temp - its so much darker and more brown that modern DCQ I've seen, but my sele...

Re: Chaozhou/Shantou
Baisao and Bok Have you figured out the red coating on the outside of some chaozhou pots? It reminds me of zini coated hongni yixing wares. Guess the popularity of red over orange/brown might have something to do with it, but then there is also brown coated Shantou, so... remains a murky affair. Hi...

Re: Your day in tea
The weather is a little warmer here in the US. I started the day with Chang Tai 2005 Peak of the Cloud as I was working on some cleaning projects. Now, drinking an early 2000 raw puerh came in a 1 kg brick.
